Wow... Awful Name!

This morning I was browsing a site where my friends baby has her picture up for winning a contest and I ran across another little girl there with an interesting and in my opinion unflattering name.... the babies name was Scerean.

What in the heck!?! any opinions? know anyone named this? Why would you name your child this... am I pronouncing it wrong?

I dunno; how are you pronouncing it?

Scerean isn't exactly my style, it makes me think of Cesarian, as in C-section, but names are cultural, right? It may not be a typical American name, but it doesn't mean it's automatically unflattering - for all I know, it could mean beatiful, or saintly, or dog's arse in another language.

In spite of my usual tolerance for any name, I have no tolerance for kree8ive and youneek names where a traditional name is mispelled, or where someone names hir kid after a commercial product or some such.

Sadly, I think you're right.

What was wrong with Serene that they had to mutilate it?

Good lord. I've never heard of that one before--it sounds like something out of some pulp fantasy bit. If I had to guesstimate how that's pronounced, I'd think it'd be something like "Seer-ee-an," but that might just be me. Either way, that poor child will be the bane of all substitute teachers.

I wanted to give this name the benefit of the doubt and assume that the parents are from another country - Iran maybe? Because I thought it might be a Persian name - it reminded me of Nasreen.

But. I don't think it is. Alas.

I think serendipitous13 may be right, and it's a horribly misspelled version of Serene (which I love).

EEEEW. It looks really ugly. Way to butcher a beautiful, unusual name!!

At first I read it and went "Skeerian?!? Oh - maybe Serene?"
Yuck.
