I'm curious about everyone's opinion on Beau for a boy. There is something that I like about it, but only when it is spelled this way. Bo doesn't appeal to me at all. Thoughts?

I can't stand it. Bo is okay, but Beau is really awful to me personally.

And it makes me think of Mame. Not that I dislike the play (I love it) but it just makes me think of it,

I met a little boy named Beau once.

This will be very stereotypical of me, but honestly, my first thought was that his dad must have had no say in picking his name, and that the boy would resent his mom for naming him that by age 12.

Really now. Can you imagine a teenage boy or man *happy* to be named Beau?? It smacks of a bad romance novel.

That's definitely the first thought that popped into my mind. It also makes me think of a really smarmy, creepy kind of guy.

There was a guy named Beau who lived across the hall from me in my freshman dorm. He was a nice guy, and I very much liked the name on him. It's funny though because I really hate the names Bella and Jolie, and I supposed Beau (handsome) on a boy really isn't any better.

Mostly it just reminds me of Days of Our Lives though, even though it's spelled Bo there.

One of my friend's little brothers is "Beau" - they're French though, so it suits him well - (4 boys: Raphael, Denis, Camille & Beau).

I do think of "Bo" on Days of Our Lives though, but that's short for "Boregard" (sp?)

I don't mind it at all, though my husband would scoff big time. I doubt he would think it's very manly.

I had a friend in high school named Beau. I never really liked his name, but he was super sweet.

It makes me think more of the old-fashioned term for a boyfriend or lover and it just seems weird as a name for me.

I absolutely LOVE IT. It's a bit short for my liking but it's French, cute, trendyish without going over the top.
ahhh i think it's mostly wonderful except the lack of nicknames...

One of my best male friends is called Beau and he's certainly manly. I like it, but I wouldn't use it myself.

Hahaha, I quite like the name partly because of the guitarist of An Cafe *points at icon* although he spell it Bou.

I think it's a great name if you want your child to be bullied mercilessly around age 11 or 12 when kids start to realise what it means. I also have to say, I don't see a teen or man being glad to be named that. I don't even think a little boy would be glad. I suggest choosing a different name or naming him Bo and spelling it Beau while he's young as a childish nickname.
