[identity profile] flannel-flowers.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So my husband and I are expecting our first baby in November, and we're determined not to find out the sex until the birth.

We've already chosen both our girl and our boy name and now I'm trying to decide middle names. That's where you come in.

For a girl we've chosen: Liliana (lil-ee-ON-uh)

For a boy we've chosen: Jonah (not hard to pronounce)

Our last name is one syllable (Brown), so for Liliana I would like a middle name with either 2 or 3 syllables, and with the emphasis on the first syllable (i.e. Avery or Charity..but I don't like Charity..I'm just giving examples). Also I want to stay away from a middle name that ends in "uh" because the first name is enough "uh" for the whole name. : )

Jonah's middle name I guess is easier. 2, 3 or 4 syllables would work, and it doesn't matter to me where the emphasis is. I am playing around with Elias (ee-LY-us).

Any suggestions you have to throw at me would be much appreciated!

Just wanted to say I love the name Liliana. My niece is Lilliana Rae. Not huge on the name Rae or the reason her mother picked it, but I love the name Lilliana/Liliana/Lillian/Lily! :)

I think so too! And at the same time, it's not a name that when she's older, it's going to see all juvenille and stuff. I know a 100-ish year old woman named Lillian, so yeah. And Lillian was my grandmother's name. I think it (and its variations) are names that grow up nicely.

For Liliana, I like Violet, I think it's cute.

For Jonah I'd choose something like Christopher, that's longer, and begins with a consonant, and something that's not so biblical.

Even though the original post wasn't mine... just had to comment on the name Liliana Emerson. That's too cute. I'm not big on male names (Emerson) for girls, but I think that's cute. And well, it combines two of my favorite things in the world: My niece (Lilliana), and one of my favorite bands (Emerson Drive). Seeing that combination made me smile.

Jonah Elias sounds really good. How about Liliana Grace, Liliana Faith, Liliana Rachel, Liliana Jade...ok I'm out of ideas for. Hope this helps.

Oh, don't I understand. My last name is Brown, too, and my husband always picks these flat, one-syllable first names. I quickly reject them. He honestly (without thinking it through) thought of naming our third (the one I'm currently pregnant with) Charles. "We could call him Charlie, Sarah!" Oh, and he wouldn't be beaten up every day of his life, poor Charlie Brown.

I really like Jonah. That name was one in the running for me. That or Owen. My husband likes Cecil (80-year old man being born!) and Jack. We already have a Caleb Kenneth and a Graham Andrew.

Hopefully we have a girl. Things would be easier then.

Ooh, I've rambled!

My husband has a tendency to pick names from movies...so they at least end up not being Klingon or Romulan names. ;) He likes Brooks (from The Shawshank Redemption), Jack (from Hook), etc. It's a bit interesting.

We can't find out the sex where we live (near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)...it's against the law. Many people were suing the ultrasound techs due to false predictions and we live in an area in which many "gender-specific" abortions were being conducted. So we're hooped. I'd love to find out, but I'd have to pay quite a bit and travel about four hours.

He's leaning more toward Owen right now, for which I'm quite ecstatic. I'd really like to have a girl, though...we agree on the one name we've had picked for a daughter!
