Today I was reading a magazine and there was a picture of this adorable little boy with his dog... the boys name was Cary... I had never heard this used for a boy... so...

What are you opinions of the name Cary?
All boy or all girl.. or unisex?

Also, The little boy I nanny for came home with an ABC book created by his AM and PM Kindergarten Class. There were 3 Bella's, 2 Sophies and 2 Avas, 1 Matthew, 1 Michael and 4 Jake's/Jacob's... in just ONE Kindergaten Teachers 2 classes!

Cary is a boy's name.

Carrie/Kari is a girl's name.

I have an uncle Kerry & and friend Carey (boys)... I personally don't like the name and the many variations, but I think it's a unisex name b/c I also know girls that are Karri, Keri, Carrie, and Cari.

On what of my favorite tv shows there is a male character named Carey. I really love it for a boy. But sadly it is unisex.

Plus there is Cary Grant.

My twin sister's name is Kari and I had never heard it on a guy until a few years ago. At first I thought it was really weird on a guy (because obviously I associated it with my sister), but it's actually kind of grown on me. I like Cary for a guy. I prefer it for a girl, but it's cool on a guy too.

I know a set of male twins named Cary and Corey. I also know a few girls named Carrie and Kari and Karri so I guess it could go either way.

When it's spelled Cary, it's a boy name to me because of Cary Grant. Any other spelling would be female to me.

A past teacher of mine had 2 kids - Cary (boy) & Clark (girl). I don't know, it's not for me, but "Cary" for a boy is way better than "Clark" for a girl IMO.

wtf? where the hell did she get Clark for a girl? I'm surprised that someone who'd use Clark for a girl would use Cary for a boy. Usually people who like boys names on girls are appalled at the idea of a feminine sounding name being used on a boy. I know Cary is a legit name for a boy, but seeing as how it's used on girls as well, it doesn't seem like something a person who likes Clark for a girl would like.

Ugh to the second topic. I grew up with a pretty unique name, and I would really hate for my kids to grow up with an initial attached to their names their whole lives.

In 4th grade, I was one of two Kari's in the class. (Wow, I'm just relating to every aspect of this post!) For some reason I got to be just Kari and the other girl had to be Kari B. That made me feel special, but then I said something to Kari B. about it, like "haha I get to be just Kari!" and she complained to the teacher. So from then on we were Kari B. and Kari R.

I always thought of Cary as a boy's name. Cary Grant, Cary Elwes, etc.

Spelled "Carrie" it's a girl's name.

Oh and I'm wondering if those Bellas are actually named Bella or if they're Isabellas. I hope they're Isabellas (even though that name is so trite now) because Bella as a full name is just awful.

really? i think Bella on it's own is lovely.

I just think it sounds way too cutesy. I cannot picture a grown woman named Bella.

Cary always struck me as a girls' name, no matter what way it's spelled.

In my kindergarten class, there were six Ashleys. I think twenty-five kids total.

I've known three men named Cary. There's also Cary Grant, who I'm sure you know. Now all of these men are over 45 years old, so I'm guessing it's rarely used any more for young boys, which is too bad. I don't know that I'd use it myself, but I do like it.

I'm of the accent where Cary/Keri/Kerry/Carey/Carrie all sound alike. But it still somehow is fine on either gender imo.

my moms ex boyfriend is named Cary, and he's in his 50's. I've only know Carey/Cary to be male.

I think of Carey as a boys name.. because of Carey Hart..

Kerri is the fem. version to me.

Even though Cary is legit for a guys name, I hate it because my name is Kari and I don't like the idea of having a unisex name! I've met quite a few guys named Cary/Kerry, although they've always been older men. My boyfriend and best friend both have uncles named Kerry.

But yeah, the only reason it bothers me is because it always makes me wonder if Kari/Carrie/Keri were "stolen" from boys the way Ashley/Courtney/etc were. I am totally against boy names on girls, so I hate to think that I might actually have one myself! I prefer to think that all the male Cary's have girl names. :P
