I guess I see them as totally separate because I pronounce them differently. I pronounce Madeline Mah-dah-lynn but Adeline as Ah-dah-leen. I guess that has has a lot to do with how you see them.
all this talk about pronunciation has got me confused... I guess I always thought of it as pronounced "Add A Line" but now that I think about it people pronounce madeline as both Mad A Line and Mad A Lynn... so Adeline could really be pronounce Add A Lynn.. which makes me like it better. Ive always liked it with the nickname Addy.
I HATE Adeline. I used to consider it a separate name, but now I'm afraid people use it just to be different from Madeline. I also hate Addison. Gaaaaaag. Addie is a hideous nickname.
I agree. I guess technically Adeline is a seperate name, but it just makes me think of someone who liked Madeline but tried to be different by taking off the M. And I also agree about Addison! Adeline and Addison are in the same awful category, imo.
I'd say A-da-line but Mad-a-lin. I know someone called Adaline (it was supposed to be Adeline but her dad mis-spelled the name at the birth registry place!).

I didn't answer the poll because I think both are true.
