Shaina

I've really liked the name Shaina lately. Not for any particular reason, but I swear, every story I've started lately has had a character named Shaina. It's growing on me.


Not sure if I'd ever use it since my sister's name is close (Shannan), but I thought I'd put it out there.


WDYT? What about other spellings? I think a Y in the middle (Shayna) makes it look a little brassier and I don't like that. But let me know what you think!

i hate names that are obviously male with an a on the end to make it female... erica, daniella, shaina etc..

I can see where that preference would come though, with the feminizing. I like names with a's on the end.

I didn't realize how to say Shaina until I saw Shayna. I like Shayna, but I'm not in love with it. Shaina looks weird to me.

I never like dit until I worked with a girl named Shainna. She was really lovely and it has made me like the name. I think your sister would be honored!

I love the name Shaina because a girl named Shaina is the reason I am a Christian today. Other than that...it's an ok name. I really like Shane for a boy so it is more masculine to me.

Though they look similar Shaina/Shayna is not the feminine form of Shane. Shayna means "beautiful" in Yiddish, whereas Shane is the anglicized form of Sean which is the Irish form of John which is the anglicized form of Yochannan which means "God is gracious" in Hebrew *phew*

I like Shaina because my Fiance's grandmother's name was Shaindel. It does seem a bit old ladyish to me though because it makes me think of people's Bubbies.
I might think of using it as a middle name for a future daughter to honour my fiance's grandmother but his cousin's Hebrew name is already Shaindel (her english name is Suzanne) so it's been covered I guess.
