got me thinking:

Are there any birds that you would name your child after? Maybe it's the trend of the future since this wacko rich person has done it.

Dove?
Boobie?
Ibis?
Lark?
Penguin?

In Dutch there are:

Mees pronounced like mace, it's a cute little bird simalar to a finch Unfortunately this name has become quite popular lately.
Merel pronounced almost exactly like Meryl - this bird reminds me of a Robin but is generally all black

Also in Dutch is Arend which means eagle and is pronounced Ah-rend. However I wouldn't choose that one quickly.

And of course in English you have:

Robin
Jay

Just looked and saw that you are Dutch - so I feel silly translating everything, but it will be useful for the other readers I guess. ;)

Hrm, I love birds, but they generally don't have very nice names.

Linnet is nice; Wren is just about ok but not my style. Lark sounds nice but I wouldn't use it. Merle (blackbird) is old-fashioned now, as is Mavis (song thrush).

Robin and Jay are well-entrenched, as another commenter says, and we can add Peregrine to that list too. I know a man named Merlin but he was named for the wizard not the bird.

Names that mean bird are easier - most variations on Evelyn/Eileen mean 'little bird', then there's Avis and Aderyn/Deryn, Jemima/Paloma/Callum/Colm/Columbina/Jonah (dove), and Philomela (associated with the nightingale).

Lark is alright I guess. and I was going to name my daughter Gavin if she was a boy which means "little Hawk" or "white hawk" depending on who you ask. although that one's not really the same as naming him/her Finch, Pelican or Flamingo.

How about Titmouse? that seems like a zomg great name for a boy. lol ;p

Raven is already used... i dont like it though.

Haha. Boobie makes me laugh.
There was a girl at my high school named Larkin, which I liked.
Other than that, there's not other bird name I would use.
But another name I could see someone using is Sparrow.

I actually don't dislike Lark. I think it sounds...interesting. Not something I'd use, but also not something I'd automatically roll my eyes at.

I saw this TV movie ages ago which had a character in called Aberset [which is apparently a kind of bird], and have liked the name ever since.
Really though I'd only seriously consider Phoebe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoebe_(bird)).
Mostly because the bird association is faily obscure. That said I have a character Phoebe who is nicknamed Bird.
Phoenix is cool too, though the bird is mythological and not always the first connotation.

Ibis, Lark, Linnet and Peregrine aren't too bad either.

I couldnt do it. Not only do I hate birds, but where I live we ahev a part of town we call "birdland" as all the streets are named for birds...too weird...
But some names like Wren and Raven are alright.

Boobie. Please tell me this is a joke. That lady would just be asking for their kid to be made fun of. For life. Grown men are no better than little boys when it comes to boobie. It reminds me of this rich couple who gave their son the mn Cash. I don't care if it was for Johnny or not. Asking for it.

Raven and Lory, I could deal with, and I kinda like Wren, but I don't think it would age well. I have a friend named Robn (no I), but it's because her full name is Robnlynn after her parents Rob n Lynn.
