It's not my favorite name, but it's alright. I prefer Sylvia. I don't think the association would be too much with Sylvia Path. A more recent Sylvia is that annoying psychic woman that's on Montel Williams all the time. I still don't see it being a problem.

I don't like Silver as a NN at all.

Sylvia Brown. I check out the new age aisle of bookstores all the time, and I've become really good at figuring out what books to ignore because they're crap.

I totally ignore the entire shelf of the Sylvia Brown books. XP

I like Sylvia. It doesn't need a nickname at all.

Terrible association with me.
A woman I used to work with - she was a prep cook, Over-weight, with a mustache, a high annoying voice, who didn't ever wash her hands... ick.

I LOVE the name Sylvia/Silvia. I also love Sylva/Silva.

I like it.
Sylvia.
I didn't associate it with Sylvia Plath or even think of her until I read it, but I don't think it's a bad association, she was a good poet.
Nooooo. Try Sylvie.

I like the name Sylvia. I do think of Sylvia Plath. There is also someone named Sylvia in my dance class who I think is a beautiful dancer, so I have a positive impression of the name.

Hmm, I don't mind. It somehow seems a bit like a name for older people, but maybe that's because all the Sylvias I know are elderly. As for Sylvia Plath, I don't necessarily think that's such a bad association - sure, she was a little crazy, but she wrote a lot of good poetry too. I don't know.

It reminds me most of all of the Bob Dylan song Silvio, but that's just me... Oh, and the Latin word for woods (silva) which is obviously where it comes from. All those years of Latin have meant that I can't separate it.

I don't really like the name Sylvia, but I do love Sylvia Plath. The association with her is probably the only reason I dont mind the name. I dont really like the word Silver in general.. it kind of reminds me of shiver and sliver... both of which are uncomfortable. Haha, but if I were to like the name Sylvia, I think Silver whould be a neat nickname. So yeah I think its more a case of not my style than anything else.

...

I should have just said that in the first place.

I like the name Silvia and don't necessarily make the association with Sylvia Plath (I know quite a few Silvia-s). I think of woods - sylvan.

I don't like Silver as a nickname.

I like the name Sylvia, and I've only ever heard Sylvie as a nickname - I'm not keen on Silver.

This is embarrassing, but it reminds me of "The Nanny"...haha. I don't know any Sylvias in real life so that was the only association I have. Not a flattering one :p

I don't think Silver works that well as a nickname, although you could do it if you wanted to. It's just like, it sounds the same but it's a weird syllable to drop. It's like if you had a Julia and called her Jula... there's something slightly off about it.

I like it. Def. with a 'y'. and yeah, I think of Sylvia Plath but not overwhelmingly so to the point of it being weird. Though I do love her so maybe I'm biased.

I don't care for Silver.

I like Sylvia over Silvia and I don't think the connection to Sylvia Plath is TOO strong. Silver would be a cute nn :)

Love the name.
Prefer the spelling Sylvia.
I don't think of Sylvia Path when I hear it.
Dislike Silver as a nickname. What about Via, Vivi, Viva, Livie, Sylv, Sylvie, Liv, Liva (lee-vah), or Livia?
