What's the story behind your name? Where did you parents find it? Is there a person they named it after? What's it mean? Anything.

For me (my name being Tamsin), my mum read it in a book when she was in her teens and pictured the name on a little golden-haired girl. My sister was born, with red hair, and then after came me! Oh, and my name means 'twin'. Which is quite possibly the most boring meaning ever.

But what about you?

My name is Elizabeth but my mom liked to call me Beth. She wanted to name me Beth, after the Little Women character, but my dad wanted something more substantial. I was sick a lot as a kid and I can't help but put some of the blame on my namesake.

I'm Caroline, because my mom was supposed to be Caroline but lots of other girls born in that hospital that week were Caroline/Carolyn/Carol/etc. So my grandma picked something else and my mom always wanted to have her daughter be Caroline. It wasn't until well after I was born that they discovered that there are multiple Carolines on BOTH sides of the family. It's also a good thing that I wasn't a boy, because my parents had no idea what they would name a boy. Very few boy's names sound good with our last name.

Tiffany Robyn

Tiffany: Medieval form of THEOPHANIA. This name was traditionally given to girls born on the Epiphany (January 6), the festival commemorating the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus.

Robyn: Pet form of ROBERT. Robin Hood was a legendary hero and archer of medieval England who stole from the rich to give to the poor. This name can also be given in reference to the red-breasted bird. After my grandfather, Robert.

I was named after the midwife who delivered me. It was a planned home birth and they had another name picked out but at some point during the process my dad decided he liked Celestia better. So there you have it.

Origionally, I was going to be named Aubrey Jean (Jean being after my gma) but then like 2 weeks before I was born, my mom heard the name Jessica on TV and liked it better... so then she changed it to Jessica Lynn lol
Honestly, I think I'd have prefered to be Aubrey... its not as common as Jessica...

My parents let my sisters name me. They choose Andrea, thank God, or else I think would have been Crystal. My sisters wanted to call me Andi. My name means strong, courageous and womanly.
My middle name is Ruschele after my father's middle name Russell, his first name was Charles, but he never went by that. I had a hell of a time spelling my middle name when I was young.

Anna means graceful. My mom chose Anna after my great great aunt Anna Jo, who was my grandma's favorite aunt, and died before I was born. Marie is in tribute to my grandma, who is Varnie Marie. She gave me her maiden name, and it all flowed together reaally nicely, I love it. My mom did a good job.

I was supposed to be called Rachel-Claire, but my Dad switched it around when he went to get me registered and put down Claire-Rachel. I don't think there was any meaning behind it other than they were the only names they could both agree on.

My dad wanted me to be Victoria, to go with my brother and sister Nicola and Michael... so we could be Nicky, Mickey and Vicky =/

Sophie/y- Means philosopher and wisdom. My parents liked the meaning, and my dad liked the fact it was a normal name but not too common. 730something when i was born, now it's number 3!
Mum wishes she had stuck to her guns & called me Kezia, as i was for a few days but Dad thought it was too religious or something.

My name is Aubrey.

It is the title of a song by the 70s folk band Bread. Apparently, my parents were having a hard time agreeing on a girl's name and then they heard the song and both loved it.

My first name didn't come from anything, but my middle name is from my mom's best friend from highschool til now and probably til they die. Unfortunately she lives across the state so I don't know her very well, but I used to spend time with her when I was little and she was a neat lady.

My dad wanted to name me Storm after the X-Men character. He insisted on it until about 2 minutes after I was born.

I'm an Annika. I was named after my dad's Swedish cousin (whom I've never met). If i wasn't Annika I would've been Phillip. If I had been a second girl (instead of the first girl) I would've been Siev, another Swedish name my dad loved. Apparently he loves Swedish girl names.

It means "grace", a Scandinavian form of Ann.

My name is Giselle, I believe my grandmother chose it because it was her childhood best friend's name. I think the story behind my little sister's name is cooler - her name is Arielle because my older sister and I wanted to name her after the Little Mermaid.

My parents picked my first name Elise from the movie Somewhere in Time, after Jane Seymour's character Elise McKenna. They didn't give me (or my brother) a middle name, just an initial (I got A, my brother got P) so for my 21st birthday, I chose the middle name Amelie, after the movie.

I was meant to be Renee Diane (EW)! My mum chose Renee Elsje when she had me because the nurse's daughter's name was Elsje and she fell in love with the name. While I was just a young child, I realised I hated the name Renee. I started going by Elsje as soon as my parents would allow it. I should have eliminated Renee altogether (and I regret that I didn't), but my name now is Elsje Renee Michelle. Michelle is my mum's middle name and I wanted a middle name I liked.

My parents first heard the name Chelsea in the movie Legal Eagles when they went out on a date a year before they were even married. I suppose it stuck with them and when they found out they were pregnant in '87, they gathered it together along with Olivia and Audrey and said they would decide when I was born. My middle name (which happens to be my maternal grandmother's name) would be Ann.

When I was born, and my dad held me for the first time, he said, "that's a Chelsea", and the rest is history.

I like my name. :]

My name is Brandi. My mom and dad were either going to pick Brittany or Brandi. They decided on Brandi because they didn't think I would be able to spell Brittany. Seven years later I become the "human dictionary" at school and end up in a lot of spelling bees. Ironic, eh? They chose to name me Brandi with an I in order to be "a little different." Heh, right. I am an alcoholic beverage. Only not really, since I don't have the y. *Sigh*

I was looking in a baby name survey book that asked people what came to mind when different names were read to them. Apparently lots of people think Brandi is a curly-haired blonde who brings a lot of attention to herself by wearing lots of makeup, short skirts and flirting with boys. It went on to say that most people think Brandi is either sweet or a sarcastic snob. I have blonde curly hair and am extremely sarcastic! These people must have known me at some point.

They hate their middle names and didn't want my brother and I to go through all the teasing of bad middle names. So we got teasing (minor) about having no middle names. They had planned on letting us pick out our own middle names someday, my brother still hasn't gotten around to it.

Meredith. My parents wanted something normal but not very common. I was born when Meredith Baxter Birney was a popular actress on family ties, but that's not where my name comes from. My middle name is Mae because it flows well and because it was my great-great grandmother's name. (I was born in may, but my parents thought I would be born in April. I like the spelling Mae better anyway.)

My brother is Matthew John, John after my father and grandfather. If he had been a girl he would have been Jessie Elizabeth (Jessie was Mae's sister's name, Elizabeth was my maternal grandmother's name and my paternal grandmother's middle name, her mother's middle name, her mother's middle name, etc.) My parents had a hard time deciding on another girl's name, though, so they were glad he was a boy.

My parents are John Howard (after his father, John Alexander, and his uncle) and Susan Nannette (after nothing in particular that I know of). Neither one is overly fond of their names. My mom HATES her middle name and never uses it.

From: [identity profile] peach-rose-girl.livejournal.com
Oh, and they also considered Jillian, Penelope, Jordan, and a few others I can't remember. My mom also like the name Evan for a boy, but my dad thought it was too feminine. (ok...)

And Meredith means "protector of the sea" The "mer" part means sea, I assume. It comes from Welsh. I take it they didn't really care about the meaning. My brother always said that my name means "Sea witch."
