Right now, my favorite name for a boy is Jonah. My husband is letting it grow on him; but, at the moment, he does not like it very much. He says that it sounds too girly because it ends in the "ah" sound.

What do you think?

I am a wee 6w4d with baby #2. Our first son is called Henry.

I like it. Don't think it's a girly name at all.

I like it. Classic but not very common. I think it goes good with Henry too! Kindof the same...um...style I guess?

When I hear the name Jonah I think of a girl for some reason. I don't like it because of that reason. When I see the name Jonah I know it's a boy, but the sound is too girly.

While it's not a hyper-masculine name to me, it's not girly at all. I like it.

I was in the same boat. I just loved my daughter's name and somehow didn't realize that a bunch of other people who were having babies around the same time as me were starting to love it too. :) I think I still would have named her it though. with this one we're going for a little less popular if possible, but both of us liking the name is more important when it comes down to it.

I love Jonah. I don't think it's girly at all, but mabye that's bc I've always just known it's a boy name?

congrats on your "wee" pregnant-ness. ;D

I dont think it sounds girly at all, maybe he'd prefer Jonas?
I dont like that as much as Jonah though...
I think it really is a 'growing on you' name. Good luck, i'm in that position with Lucas!
I adore Henry, Jonah sounds great with it :-)

I don't think the Jonah of the Bible is a good namesake, he was a bit of an avoidant, disgruntled whinger, from what I remember :p

Otherwise it's quite masculine and sounds nice, I like names like John and Jonathan and it has the same beginning sort of sound

He was swallowed by a whale AND SURVIVED - surely that's something you want in a son?! :P

I'm getting kind of sick of it because it's getting REALLY trendy among online communities.

I actually knew a girl named Jonah who hated her name because it's a boy's name and she now goes by something else. I like it.

I LOVE it and always have, my first best friend was named Jonah. I remember chasing him around the daycare trying to kiss him. I will definitely use it for a future son no matter how popular it is (and I've sworn off all names below #100), probably Jonah Benjamin.

I'd be shocked if the average American didn't recognize Jonah as masculine immediately. I'd understand if it were something like Luca or Bela... but saying Jonah is sorta girly is like saying Ezra and Elijah are sort of girly...

Anyway, I think Jonah and Henry would be an awesome sibset.

You could always use Jonas if it's the end sound putting him off.

I don't think it sounds any girlier than Noah. I don't think either one sound feminine in the least.

Funny you should mention this name. My friend Donovan's brother's name is Jonah. Donovan is gay, and Jonah is possibly the most masculine 13-year-old I've ever met, lol. I'm not sure if I like the name, but since I've met my friend's brother, it sounds more masculine to me.
