There is a reason for the AE spelling. My first language is French, and all my extended family speaks only French. The name is commonly spelled "Abigael" or "Abigaelle" in French, and pronounced "Abby-gah-elle". I just wanted it to be easy for my French relatives as well as for our English-speaking ones.

Yes, I am French-Canadian. Skip is my FIL's actua; name. He changed it from Carl Friedrich when he deserted the US army during Vietnam, and it is now his official name.
