(no subject)

What do you think of the name Lux?
I heard of it in The Virgin Suicides, which admittedly isn't the best association.
I like that it sounds modern to me but at the same time love the classical meaning- "light" in Latin.

the meaning of it is lovely, but it sounds like a description of something to me, not a name.

Lux is the name of a laundry soap - or one from the past, but still pretty well known as that.

It's definitely sold in Argentina, my friend spent a semester there and brought me back two bars.

it reminds me of soap.

Too short for a first name, good middle name though.
It's in teh same vein as Quinn for me, quirky, unusual & goes with most things.
I wouldnt have a problem with Alexandra, Alexa, Alexis etc shortened to Lux. (even though lex makes more sense, dont like it as much.)

It reminds me of soap too I'm afraid.

Soap, and vacuum cleaners (Nothing sucks like an Electrolux!)

I hated this name the first time I heard it, I still don't think it's that good, but am more neutral to it now. Lucy has the same meaning and origin.... or Lucia

Hahaha electrolux. I am so easily amused.

The meaning is great, but it sounds too harsh for my tastes.

I don't really like it. I can picture kids being mean and saying "Lux sucks!" or worse.

I was just thinking about that the other day- the name Lux from the Virgin Suicides! I like it, personally.

I swear I was just thinking about this name yesterday! I'm torn because I love it, but do we really need a little Lux Lauder running around? lol. It's definitely got middle name potential for me, though.

I really dislike it. It reminds me of the work luxury. I find it ostentatious and pretentious. There is a posh restaurant in town named Lux.

I really like it, but only as a nn. I'd use it as a nn for Lucy.

I've also loved the name Lux ever since I read the book and saw the movie.
However, I don't think I'd ever use it because it rhymes with sucks.
I'd probably only use it as a middle name.

i love it. i've loved it for a long time..and i definitely plan on using it.

I think it's a great nickname, but it isn't good for a full name. Someone posted a name recently in this community that "Lux" could be a nickname for. I forget what it was, though. (Sorry!)

I love it. I've never heard of the soap and I think Lux in the Virgin Suicides is a beautiful association. The way Eugenides writes just gives her an amazing beautiful otherwordly kind of association in my mind. Eleanor Lux is on my "definitely" list.

I know someone whose daughter is named Lux. I never cared for the name before, but this kid is so adorable she makes me love the name.

[identity profile] wake-tonight.livejournal.com 2006-10-14 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Soap! You could use the name Lucy (which means light) and have Lux as a nickname maybe...

[identity profile] mountain-nest.livejournal.com 2006-10-14 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
if you want it to be the latin word, you'd have to say "Lukes," and everyone else will just assumed it is pronounced "Lucks."

can't brain today. i have the dumb.

I think it was also a plane, I did a Google Image search once and got lots of pictures of planes that said LUX.

But I LOVE it! I too first heard of it in The Virgin Suicides, so it does always make me feel bad to tell people that but it's still a beautiful name. I actually adopted it as my "French name" (I worked at a French camp for 6 years), so I pronounce it Loox, not Luhx.

But I like it both ways!
