(no subject)

Hey my names Rebecca, im 20 and im just over 17 weeks pregnant, i find out the sex in 15 days and im really excited.

Ive been struggling to find a name thats not too common but acceptable in my partners eyes.

I fell in love with the name Eli for a girl but went on to find its 2nd most popular in england.

So far ive got Girls = Carmen, Honey (but the films gone and ruined it), Lila Grace (is it wrong to be named after Kate Moss' daughter?), Levi, Tiegan, Tiara, Alyssa, Elise.

Boys = Teao (pronounced Teo), Llyndon, Kenton, Elliott, Braydon, Levi.

My partners half turkish half english so if anyone has any turkish suggestions that dont sound too foreign as the surnam will be Turkozu that would be great.

I'll be honest, most of your names just aren't my style.

Eli and Levi are boy's names to me. The rest of the girl's names aren't bad though- just not my taste exactly.

I really like Elliott from your boy's list. I love that name. Kenton is interesting- I've never heard it before (I'm from the US) but it sounds good to me.

[identity profile] trissyd.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I had a friend named "Kenton" growing up :)

[identity profile] trissyd.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like "Lila", but "Grace" is such a filler name in my opinion. I love "Elliot" for a boy.

How about:
Girls
Ayla (it's hebrew, but also turkish, apparently)?

Lila Honey (this is really nice)
Lila Carmen

Boys
Elliot Taner ('Taner' is turkish - I love these names together)

[identity profile] mrsduryee.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Eli and Levi are VERY masculine Hebrew names for BOYS. I am glad that Eli is #2 in England, and I assume it's for boys.

My best friend is Turkish. These are some names we've duscussed that I like.

Turkish girls' names:
AYLA
AYLIN
AYŞE - Turkish form of 'AISHA, which is an alternative spelling, less ethnic
CEREN
RANA (My Turkish best friend!)
YASEMIN (her mom)

Turkish boys' names:
ADEM
ALI (her dad)
ALTAN
DERIN
DERYA (her brother)
MUSTAFA

Keep us updated!

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Rana is really pretty out of those

[identity profile] 031307.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
If you like Elif, maybe honor his sister by using it as a middle name. It sounds pretty good with Lila. :)

[identity profile] sayga.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Lila Elif is almost the same name forwards and backwards. :P

[identity profile] mrsduryee.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Rana has tons of friends in Turkey who's names are all beautiful but I can't remember any of them, except Ozgul or something like that.

[identity profile] o-honeybee-o.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in the UK and Ellie was #2 in 2003 & 2004 for girls, spelt 'Ellie'.
It's still pretty common though i hear it a lot.

[identity profile] scouty.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
that are the names I really like !

Girls =
Lila Grace
Tiegan
Alyssa
Elise

Boys =
Elliott
Braydon
Levi

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh... so are people in the UK calling girls Ellie spelled as Eli?
Because the male Hebrew name is pronounced lik EEEE-lie
(eee as in "tree", and lie like the word "lie")

[identity profile] o-honeybee-o.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, it's most commonly spelt Ellie for a girl here in the UK =)

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, wow that's really surprising. I've never seen that spelling before, but I can imagine it being used if someone's name was Elizabeth

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh whoops I completley misread your message

[identity profile] bloomingtulip.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, I was wondering that too

Eli is E-lie to me and Ellie is like saying the letters L then E (so L-E i guess)

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hrm or maybe the name Ellie is number 2 in the UK, but the OP is considering it to be a variant spelling? That would make more sense.. I'd be surprised if suddenly EVERYONE was spelling Ellie as Eli

[identity profile] bloomingtulip.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't like Eli (as E-lie) for a girl and I don't like Ellie spelled Eli either

[identity profile] rubytitania.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in the UK and I've never head of a boy named Ellie or a girl named Eli! They're pronounced totally differently :)

[identity profile] bloomingtulip.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
whew! :)

[identity profile] queen-mab.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, in America, Eli is pronounced E-lie and Ellie is pronounced like the letter L plus the letter E with emphasize on the L part.

[identity profile] rubytitania.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
It's the same here :)

[identity profile] xanya.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm... Turkish names. Two of my best friends are Turkish and their names are Perin (pronounced Pe-RIN, with Pez being what she goes by) and Dilara (which I really like).

[identity profile] secret-x-stars.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
is your friend perin [livejournal.com profile] _mathlete on LJ? (i don't know if that's her usernmae anymore)

[identity profile] xanya.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, not her. Is Pez also her nickname? 'Cause that would be cool.

[identity profile] secret-x-stars.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think that's her nn, but I haven't spoken to her in ages. But she was Turkish and her name was Perin... but IIRC (and I could be wrong), her parents just made it up. I didn't know it was a real name, lol.

[identity profile] imafuckingirl.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Perin but pronounced Perr-in. would that be classed as bastardising the name in any way if I were to pronounce it like that but keep the same spelling?

[identity profile] xanya.livejournal.com 2006-10-14 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Ha, I have no idea! Probably would, but if you're not Turkish then I doubt it would be a problem.

[identity profile] omgzits--tam.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Grace as a middle name is like Marie or Rose.
Either
a) The parents know someone important with these highly common names
b) Picked it because they go with everything.

[identity profile] maude.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like Teao...I think it is really neat. I think it would age well.

I also like Tiegan for a girl but spelled Tegan, Tiegan looks like tye-gan. However I would advise against Lila Grace...Kate Moss isn't the best role model around.

[identity profile] secret-x-stars.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
BERNA!!!!

I love that name. It was the name of a childhood friend of mine who was Turkish.

[identity profile] babystrong.livejournal.com 2006-10-10 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
i have a boy elliott (he's eliot) and we call him eli for short. that's kinda both worlds :)

[identity profile] p-inkjeans.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Carmen - Not my style, but a good name.

Honey - I am 100%, totally against this name. It seriously reminds me of a prostitute. On a good day, maybe a high class exotic dancer.

Lila Grace - I absolutely love this. Both names are gorgeous and Lila is simple without being common. I definitely like this one a lot.

Levi - I've always thought of this as a boy's name, but it's OK.

Tiegan - I like it better spelled Tegan

Tiara - Not a fan

Alyssa - I like it, but I like Lila Grace better.

Elise - OK, but not something I love.

--

Teao - For some reason, despite being like "WTF???" at first, I really sort of like this one now.

Llyndon - I had absolutely no idea how to pronounce this at first (still not sure if I'm right), and I think you'd get a lot of people spelling it Lyndon and asking, "you mean like the President?"

Kenton - OK, but the name Ken just sounds kind of...blah to me and Kenton seems like an awfully big name for a kid to go without a nickname.

Elliott - Probably my favorite. I love this name :).

Braydon - Too trendy sounding to me. It definitely has the potential to be the next Aidan and I've heard this name (in diff spellings) on a lot of peoples' lists lately.

Levi - After Elliott, probably my favorite name.

Anyway. My votes are for Lila Grace and Elliott (with Teao as a mn, just because I really like it all the sudden ;))

[identity profile] elsh.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Elise and Elliot are the only names I can look at on your list without cringing.

[identity profile] queen-mab.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I screwed up the last two comments, lol. Let us try this again..

I LOVELOVELOVE the name Skandar (SCAN-der) for a boy. It's the Turkish version of Alexander. I like it because Skandar Keynes is one of my favorite actors. He was in Chronicles of Narnia and is in my icon.

For your girls I like Elise, Lila Grace, and Tiegan. Although I'd spell it Tegan or Teagan. I don't think it's bad to name your child the same name as Kate Moss's unless you live around people who know a lot about Kate Moss.

For your boys' names, I like Kenton. :)

[identity profile] xcuore.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Levi for a boy^^
Lila Elise is also great^^

for turkish names; i know a girl named Moona, & i totally love Moona (its pronounced like muh-na). I know a Aisha, which is great but i donno for sure if Aisha is a turkish name. Zeinab is also nice IMO, but again i'm not sure if its turkish :)
turkish boy names; unfortunately i only know 2 turkish boy and both are named Mohammed. (ive nothing against the islam, but i dont like the name). Tho i like Omar (again i donno if its turkish)

[identity profile] qalanjo.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ayşe (ay-SHEH) is the Turkish form of Aisha, Zeynep is the Turkish version of "Zeinab".

I always thought Ömer is the Turkish variation of Omar but it might just be a separate name.

[identity profile] qalanjo.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Keep in mind Turkish has pretty much the same alphabet as English except for a couple of different letters. I think you should go with one of the names that doesn't have letters such as ç ğ ı ö ş ü and also c which is pronounced like the English j. The Turkish j is pronounced like the French j. I think you should just avoid them if you want to keep them from being too "foreign sounding". People will have trouble pronouncing them correctly if they don't know about Turkish sounds.

I think some nice Turkish ones for girls are
Aysel
Leyla
Damla
Emine
Filiz
Hande
Lale
Selin
Sinem

For boys:
Efe
Hasan
Yusuf

I don't like many Turkish boys' names ; ))

[identity profile] qalanjo.livejournal.com 2006-10-12 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Leyla or Lale (la-leh) would make a nice Turkish substitute for Lila, if you think about it ; )

[identity profile] lavandersparkle.livejournal.com 2006-10-12 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
What about Leila?

[identity profile] anapology.livejournal.com 2006-10-13 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Carmen- dont like, but i can see the appeal. What about Carmel/Carmella?
Honey (but the films gone and ruined it)- heh i love Honey to bits, but people on this board don't seem to like it,
Lila Grace (is it wrong to be named after Kate Moss' daughter?)- very pretty but yes.. being named after kate Moss' daughter is a bit weird.
Levi,- not no a girl
Tiegan,- dont like
Tiara- yuck. In the same vein as Jewel, Crystal, Princess, Armani etc What about Aurora.
Alyssa- love
Elise- love even more.

Boys = Teao (pronounced Teo)- hmm dont like, i like Leo.
Llyndon- dont like
Kenton- dont like
Eliott- like (spelt like this)
Braydon- dont like
Levi- like a lot.
