What could Anna be a nickname for, other than Annabelle?
Does Anna seem too informal to be a first name as itself?

How do you feel about using names your parents were going to name you or your siblings if they were the other gender? My sister and I were going to be Owen and Samuel, and my brother was going to be Anna(belle), all of which I like...but I don't know if it'd be too weird using them.

Anna could be a nick name for names that end with Anna:
Liliana
Mariana
Roxanna
Brianna

Or names that begin with Anna:
Anastasia
Annabeth
Annalise
Annalynn
Annamarie
Annalee

My sister is Anna; I've always thought of it as very formal.

I would have been Xavier or Raynor if I was a boy. I like both names. My sister would have been Aaron Robert; not my style but not horrible.

I love the name Anna. It's definitely in my top ten, if not top five. I don't think of it as nickname-ish at all.

My brother would have been Megan if he'd been a girl, and it was near the top of my list for a while. I don't think it's weird at all.

Anna-Lucia
Anastasia

Personally I LOVE Anabelle, wouldnt need a nickname for me. Anastasia second.

I don't think it would be weird at all to use those names. Also Anna can stand alone, it doesn't need to be a nickname.

I don't think Anna is too informal to be used on it's own. I can't think of any longer versions that haven't been mentioned already though.

My parents were going to name my brother Megan, Martha or Chloe if he'd been a girl. I quite like Chloe and Megan and if we decided to use them I wouldn't feel weird about it.. at least I'd know that I had my parents' approval! ;)

Anna can stand alone.

I'd suggest asking your parents if they are still alive, about using their other names.. They will probably be flattered, but you never know.

Interesting, I've always thought of Anna as such a formal, stand-alone name that it seems weird for it to even be a nickname for something longer! This is the first time i've ever heard anyone ask that question.

That being said, it's definitely in my top 5.

If I was going to be a boy I would have been Michael - sooo common that I find it boring. My brother would have been Rebecca if he was a girl, and I quite like that but I know too many people with that name. I know what you mean, it is a bit weird. I'm sure my mum would love it if I used one of the names she wanted to call us because obviously she likes that name and wants it to be used...and at least I'd know she likes it... but I agree that there is something a bit weird feeling. It wouldn't stop me if I loved the name though

I have no idea what I'd have been if I were a boy.. I know the other girl name my momwas thinking about, though, and I hate it. I'm glad she picked the one she did.

however, I did use a name my mom would have used had she had more children. I think she was happy it got used, since she didn't get a chance to do it herself!

(it's better than having a grandchild with a name you hate!)

I love Anastasia, in which Ana can be a nickname. Also, something I don't think anyone else has mentioned: I think 2 part names can be really cute, like Anna-Marie. I disagree with Anna sounding odd or formal whatsoever.

There's also Anneke. It's a Dutch name and is pronounced like Annica. I like it but it might be too different for some people.

I think Anna is just fine as it stands. Can't think of any 'full names' which haven't been mentioned.

Nah I don't think that's weird; it's quite sweet really, shows you like your parents taste.
If I'd been a boy my name would have been Richard, and I do plan to use that as a mn (they ended up using it for my younger brother). Only girls names of theirs I like are Megan and Clair; but I don't love Megan enough to use, and Clair is my mn.

I think its very nice in its own right and that, considering popularity, others do too, lol.

My brother's girlfriend's name is Anna. One of my favorite actresses' name is Anna. I like it as a name on its own. Though I love Annabelle and Julianna.

And I don't think that's weird at all.

We just named our kitten Annabelle, and now I'm wishing we hadn't because the name has grown so much on me that I want it for a baby name!
