(no subject)

Anyone else wish this community was available when their preants named them?

i know i sure do!

My parents weren't very original... i once read in this baby name book abt another name book called

Beyond Jennifer and Jason  frankly, i got quite a kick out of the title, because ironically enough those are the names my parents picked for my brother and I, sure I was named after my Grandomother, and my brother- well they just liked Jason  i guess, but i wish they chose something a little bit different.

I wish my parents had looked at some names books or this community too. They couldn't agree on what to name me, my mom wanted to name me Emma but my dad hated it, and if I was a boy, my dad wanted to name me Guy but my mom hated it. They compromised and named me Mary Linda. Mary after my mom's sister, Linda after my dad's sister. It's nice to name a child after relatives, but I think Mary and Linda are pretty dull names!

Mary is a beautiful name. It makes me think of Princess Mary (http://images.bt2.metropol.dk/229/229924/229924_large.jpg). Not dull or boring at all but simple and elegant. :)

thank you :) Mary was the most popular girl's name until the 1950's or so. I guess it is sort of unique in a way, I don't know any other girls my age named Mary.

Hehe, ironically I was talking about this with my bf the other night, (who happens to be named Jason..yeah, our parents SUCK). But on the brightside, I was either going to be named Jennifer or Amanda. I'm glad I don't have Amanda at least, doesn't suit me very well. Would be nice to ditch Jennifer, though. I hate it.

If you don't like your name, change it. I did :)

Beyond "Beyond Jennifer and Jason, Madison and Montana" (the sequal to Beyond Jennifer and Jason) is the best baby names book I've ever read!!!!

I haven't read the first one, but the second one is really, really good.

Yeah, my name was the third most popular -- right behind Amy and Jennifer :)

My brother's name was the 2nd most popular.

My sister's ranked 54, so she lucked out, her name was in the top 10 two decades before she was born.

My daughter's name isn't even in the top 1000 :)

out of sheer curiosity, what is your daughters name?

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2005-03-15 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
My daughter's name is, or I should say will be in May, Ada.

I know what you mean! My parents chose Mary Kathleen (for me) Robin Suzanne (my sister who was born 2 months premature) and Laura Elizabeth for my youngest sister. All pretty common/boring names. But then again my parents are David Brian and Theresa Kathleen...

I hear yah! when my sister was born they were going to name her Elizabeth Ann but then Katherine Hepburn won an award that year....or something like that and my grandmother, my mom's mom, was all lets name her after Katherine Hepburn.....so she was saved. She is Katherine Eileen. Then when I was born my mom was going to name me Elizabeth Ann. But my grandmother loved Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis and convinced my mom to name me after her....so I am Jackeline Marie. Nicknamed Jacky. Thank GOD!!!!! my grandmother was still around to save my sister and I. Both of us are so not Elizabeths. lol But we had to grow up with the rhyme sceem Kathy and Jacky. We never knew which one of us were introuble cuz our parents have strong accents so we would just pick who would go when our parents called. lol It's better than boring Elizabeth. I didn't want my son to have a common name at all so I named him Draven. Our daughter on the way is going to be named Isis. Nothing common or boring.

I much prefer Elizabeth as a middle name. It works much better that way. My first daughter, as long as I have it my way, will be Bailey Rose. God I hope that Bailey's not a really popular name by then! I love it cause it's not very common. A lot like my name, only much easier to say.

My parents genuinly thought my name was uncommon, as they only knew one other person called that at the time.
19 years later I can conclude they were totally wrong. It's the 11th most common female name in America (acording to the 1990 census). Of course I'm not American, but it must be pretty common here too, everyone seems to know at least one other.

That's my given name of course. Which I won't share due to intensly loathing it, doesn't suit me at all.
So I've chosen to go by Sage, all round better choice. Far less common too, I know of a few, but never met one in real life.

My brother's name is Richard, kind of common but not overly so. It's very classic too. Happens to have been our Great Grandfather's name, but we didn't know until recently.
