I saw a film recently where the main character had the name Jeliza-Rose.
What do you think about it and double first names in general? I'm not sure generally, but I kind of like this.

Also if you found a name in a book or film would you consider it for your future child even if the character's tale was tragic?
Or would you not be able to get past the association?

I think short and simple double first names are all right if they flow nicely, like Mary-Kate, Elle-Rose, Lily-Anne, etc. But something like.. Annabelle-Lisette is too long, in my opinion, and should be made into a first and middle name, in my opinion.

Funny you should ask that second question, because I love the name Regan for a girl but Shakespeare's King Lear totally ruined that name. I might use it for a middle name, but I'm not sure. But Regan was not only tragic, she was also an antagonist. I think if the character was a good character, a protagonist, then naming your child after them even if they died tragically is all right. Half the names on my list come from characters from books, actually. As long as the name sounds all right in the modern day, go for it. I remember some names I like that are the names of tragic heroes, but for some reason they're slipping my mind at the moment.

I like double names, as I have one, myself (Sarajane). I like them as long as they're not ridiculous - like, we saw this movie with this girl in it named Mary-Margaret and she was ALWAYS called that. That is TOO MUCH for a name. I think Jeliza-Rose is a bit much... Was she always called that or was she usually called Jeliza?

i ♥ Ophelia, even though she isnt the greatest of shakespeares heroines- she's mad & drowns herself! I'd still use it though.

I absolutely would. Two of my favorite names are Juliet and Ophelia.

I was named after a pretty sad (and freakin boring!) movie. Most people have never heard of "Somewhere in Time" so there's no association at all.

Jeliza seems to sound a bit too close to "jealous" for my liking.

I like those a lot too. Love Shakespeare :)

I'm not a big fan of "double" names in general. I think they often sound a bit too cute or childish once a kid grows up.

Don't like Jeliza in itself either to be honest.
