My new niece was born today. They didn't tell us what they were naming her until she was born, which I guess is both good and bad. Anyway, her full name is Scarlett Mena Ayres. It's not a name that I'm CRAZY about, but then I wasn't crazy about Lilliana when they gave my other niece that name, and now I think it's great.

Anyway... my question is... are there any nicknames for Scarlett? I can't think of anything you could possibly nickname the child. Hmm.

lol, Scar would be awful for a sweet little girl, IMO. I was thinking Cara or maybe like Carly or something like that. Though my other niece is Lily and everyone calls her Bug. lol. So I guess if she's going to get a nickname, it won't necessarily be derived from her name. hehe.

lol. I was always called Matilda when I was little. My name is actually Margaret, and I don't know... my parents were just weird lol. I didn't realize Matilda was a real name until I was way older - like in high school. I thought it was just a nickname.

I always called my nephew "Midget." Until his mother told him that was mean of me. She's such a twit. I wasn't being mean... it's just what I called him.

That'd probably be the cutest, actually. Cause then my nieces would be Lily and Lettie. I'm not sure what her parents are going to call her, like if they plan on using a nickname, but I'll probably end up using Lettie. :)

im all for nicknames, but this is silly! her parents had the names in this order for a reason, Scarlett & Mena have the same syllables so really.. you may aswell call her Scarlett!

Right. Not all names need nicknames. My family all uses shorter names though... it'd be weird to call a kid by their full name in my family. lol. Though my other niece and my nephew both have nicknames that have nothing to do with their names at all. She'll probably end up with one of those as well.

The only nickname I've heard for Scarlett is Lettie, but I don't really like it. Scarlett is such a nice name in itself - I wouldn't shorten it.
