(no subject)

This is why i dont like androgenous names.
I'm watching Ricki Lake reruns (heheh im ill!) about beauty pagents, siblings "Ashton and Skylar" came out...a 7 year old boy & a 3 year old girl dressed up and it took me a good 5 minutes to realise that Skylar was the boy & Ashton was the girl.
If i had a boys name, and people thought that on paper i was a boy it would seriously annoy me.
My girls are going to have proper girly girl names!

i totally agree!

I like androgenous names because of that "which is it?" factor, lol.

I would prefer a unisex name to my girly Sarah.

I see your point, but to me, Sarah is just as girly as Ophelia to me; my "girly" designation is very broad.

I totally agree. If my parents had done that to me, I'd have changed my name.
I know a sibset of Ashtin, Kennedy, and Tate.. all girls. I'd hate my mom for life. LOL

I like those - AStin, Kennedy and Tate. That's a nice sibset.

I know a couple of girls..Rowan and Parker. I don't like it at all!

But I do like Tate for a girl!

I don't like androgenous names either....next thing you know, there'll be girls named masculine names like David and Jonathan. The only androgenous name I like on girls is Jordan.

I totally agree! I despise this trend! It's not cute or spunky to give a girl a boys name. If people insist on doing it, they should at least use a girly name and a boyish nickname.

what do you consider a frilly girl name? :)

I don't mind unisex names. I do mind boys' names on girls. It's a completely different story.

Skylar is fine, but not Ashton.

my "daughter's" nickname sounds like a boy's name...looks like a girls name though. Her name is CorriAnn and she goes by Corri.

My girl cousin's middle name is "Ashton"... I think that pre-Ashton Kutcher it was a more acceptable name for girls.

I'm odd in that way, because I adore some unisex names and I despise others... but the odd thing is, the one's I LIKE I only like for one sex and think that it's awful on the other sex... example, my favorite name for a boy is "Lyric" (as I've said before), but I hate it for a girl, even though most people see it as a girls name... when it comes to girls names, my favorites are Bianca, Layla & Carys, EXTREMLY girlie.

hehe my sister's name is Carey. When she turned 18 she had SEVERAL calls to the house from recruiters telling her that she had to sign up for the selective service. She would get SOOO angry. I guess they didn't bother to check out that her fist name was Ellen! LOL

That was the only time she hated having an androgenous name, otherwise she loved it, because she HATED the name Ellen. :)

Pft. I hate it. I've heard so many people say that they gave/will give their children androgynous names because they don't want to purposely 'gender them' in case their gender doesn't suit them. But how often does it happen that a child is transgendered? And if they turn out to be, can they not change their name? It's such a lame excuse. Nine times out of ten, a child will just be pissed that no one ever knows if they're a boy or a girl.

I was reading an article about a sibset named Spencer and Tyler. It took me at least five minutes to realize that they were both girls! It's just gross.
