My husband and I were discussing the name Avery for a girl. Love it, hate it, or too popular??

I knew a girl named Averi once.. I always think it's girly, and have to convince myself of it's masculinity when I see it on males.

Hate it and too popular. I've seen at least 50 Avery Elizabeths all over LJ and message boards. And dozens more Averys with various other middle names.

Plus we're using it as a middle name for our son.

Hate it for a girl. It's a boys name to me, and it sucks that it's getting so popular for girls that it's becoming girls-only.

I only like it for a boy.

Very popular..
I really find it masculine.. not suitable for a girl at all, IMO.

i love it for a girl. i know it's traditionally masculine, but it sounds so feminine to me. it is getting really popular, though.

I really like it. It was a name I thought I made up when I was like 13 years old. I made it up for a girl. Years later I got into this whole naming thing and learned it already existed, but as a male name. I've never been sold. It sounds girly to me. (Plus I've never met an Avery, male or female.)

Well yeah that. But what I really mean is that because I don't know any male Averys, I have no reason to question the newish trend of girl Averys.

LOVE IT. It's one of my tops. It may be popular on lj, but come on, how many people really run into various ljers in everyday life? I don't know anyone with that name/or named their kids that around here.

I like it :) But I must admit that it reminds me of Charlotte's web, haha!

It reminds me of the word 'aviary'. I think of a big cage full of birds and lice and seed bird poo.

I have never met anyone with this name, and after coming on here I have learned about it. But if you'd asked me a few months ago I probably would have just guessed it was a girls' name because it sounds pretty feminine to me.

I used to like it, but it reminds me of the death eater from Harry Potter now. lol.
I think i do like it quite a lot though, with Ava as a nickname maybe.

Love it. Getting popular but I don't think it's too bad now. You'll run into resistance though because it's traditionally a male name. It's the ONE boys name I like on girls :/

I love it, personally, but I guess it is popular these days. Doesn't affect the name for me, though. I still like it.
