Sep. 10th, 2006 01:34 pmwhat do you all think of hyphenated first names, would you call the kid by the whole thing or just the first part? and do you think a middle name is necessary?
for example i have a friend named peter-james mackinnon, mackinnon being his middle name, and another friend named anna-louise sarah, sarah being her middle name.
peter-james gets called pj.
anna-louise gets called anna-louise.
and i know two girls named emma-louise, both who go by 'emma'.

Date: 2006-09-10 04:19 am (UTC)I also met a little girl named Ella-Skye the other day. Her mother called her Ella-Skye instead of shortening it. I also thought it was cute.

I really ate the name Louise so any ****-Louise name makes me cringe.

Date: 2006-09-10 11:23 am (UTC)why is there always only a first+middle name construction in VS and not just as much names as you want? Here in Holland you can give as many names as you want (tho most people only have 3 names)

Date: 2006-09-10 04:58 pm (UTC)I'm not so keen on a hyphenated first name though, only if the two names are shorter, otherwise it's just a mouthful.

Date: 2006-09-10 06:49 pm (UTC)I don't like it in the first name slot.. I don't quite understand the appeal. But I'd rather see a Mary-Catherine or an Anna-Sophia than a McKaedylynne anyday, so I can't complain.

Date: 2006-09-11 01:47 pm (UTC)The giving her my cat's name, Sherman, was a bit of a last-minute decision, and whoa nelly, was I on a lot of morphine! Until we had her, we'd just planned on first(BRenna) middle(rose), but I like having them bbth first so I could call her both without calling her by her full name. We may do this with our future children as well.

Date: 2006-09-11 06:29 pm (UTC)ok, so long comment short, I guess I like them except in cases of really random names which sound weird when smashed together.
