I think it's pretty. I don't think it's all that popular anymore, maybe on the top 1000 names, but not in the top 200. It was probably a bigger name in the 1980s, at least that'd by my guess.
did you go look after you posted? in the past FIFTY years, it has not been OUT of the top 200. i thought of the name at work today and though, hey, i really like that name. i've never known anyone called Valerie, though I knew a Val (short for an ethnic name that wasn't Valerie) once. and i looked it up and was completely stunned to see it has been in the top 200 for so long. and you're right, in the 80's, it was a lot more popular--top 100s. but i was born in the 80s and never knew a valerie. how does THAT work?!
I was born in 1983 and have never met a Valerie... that doesn't mean the name wasn't popular. I have never met a Madison, but that doesn't mean the name isn't popular.
It is a well-known names, probably more popular in the 70s and 80s, probably not used very often today - I'd agree it would most likely be in the top 1000, rather far down
I dont really like it, mainly bc it reminds me of the mom on that show from teh 80s, the Hogan Family i think it was called?
she wasnt really bad, just an annoying mom on the show, at least as far as i can remember. i think she was played by an actress i disliked or something. maybe it was called Valerie's Family?
and I'm really shocked that it's popular now. I only knew a few Valeries growing up
I think it's semi-common, most people have heard the name. I've probably met about 5 Valeries in my life. I have a good friend named Valerie so I have a good association with it.
I've only known one Valerie.. she was prolly born in the late eighties. In fact, I did'nt know her.. I had a friend who had a little sister named that, who I never met.
I would't deem it popular at all, least not around here.. there's not a single one in my daughter's school, and we don't exactly live in the middle of nowhere.
techincally I should love the name cuz it's my best friend of 14 years name.....but I think it's alright. I wouldn't name my kid that. It's okay. Where i live in texas that name is VERY popular.
Well, I've got an aunt named Valerie whom my family doesn't get along with, and a girl who went to school with me. Both are kind of one the tightly-strung side... so that's my association. I suppose it's semi-popular but not REALLY popular.
I really don't like the sound of it, and the spelling looks off to me for some reason. Even though I know it isn't.
It depends on what you think of as popular. It's well known, but I'm sure it's not in the top 100... but I'm also sure it's probably not below the 400 mark.

I like it a lot. It's a pretty name, familiar to everyone but not too common. And I like names that start with unusual letters, like V.

I do however like the Zultons song :)
I'd say it's fairly well used, but not popular per se.
