Most of the Mormons I know have names that end in -son, or -on/-an.

And I, for some reason, have noticed an extreme number of boys with the name McKay within Mormon couples.

99% of these are awful. that 1% = Andrew.

Also wtaf at Gracious Bubbles.

It is so bizarre. I personally know 6 McKays (all Mormon, varying ages, oldest is 15/16), and I, for some reason, follow a ton of Mormon Mommy blogs, and there are tons of McKays too. I don't care for it.

McKay would be the last name of David O., one of the former prophets.

:)

(not practicing, just grew up in it, and living in Canada where the religious people, and their names, are slightly saner ;) )

my former SO told me over and over how WEIRD a lot of names in Utah were...and uhhhhh yeah he was right...they do kinda have the market cornered for some reason.

Weirdest name ever...our waitress at cracker barrel in Utah ... Mashley. That was her given name. Mashley. WTF???

A few of these names come from Church history and Book of Mormon figures. McKay, for example, was the surname of a previous Church President.

Some of these names, though, are just... what were these parents thinking? Half of these look more like pet names than names for ones child.

how did Andrew get a common name even??
summer, autumn are pretty common in my area it seems.
i knew twins named spring and brooke waters in h.s.
and there was also a rainey (which tbh i really like) in h.s.
i even kno a mitzi.
aspen, vienna, and noelle is actually a cute sibset :)
and alisha, brianna, carlie, danaka ::i'm assuming is pronounced like danica:: & delinda (twins), ethan, and fallon aint bad esp compared to a lot of the other names on this list.

I dont know much about Morman's but this is not what I expected

Interesting choices, lots of them had a normal name among all the crazy, Andrew, Joseph, Lane. Where did Lars come from?

Yes Brogan I would change my names too

I've seen twins called Thor and Storm. Viking is hardcore. Hurricane and Tornado is crazy.

Mormons: Straight laced in personal life, absolutely nuts with the naming trends.

Do you think Andrew ever gets lonely? :) Arkadelphia? That's not a real name. So much of this is just WTF inducing all over the place. Maybe this is kind of ridiculous, but I think Eclipse and Horizon are pretty b.a. middle names, though my husband would kill me if I ever suggested them. I also think Aspen is a fantastic name. Mostly everything else on here is head ache causing.

It has been statistically proven that those who are conservative tend to name their kids very obscure and liberal names and the opposite for those who are liberal.
