What are your thoughts on giving a child two middle names? With the exception of one family with the mom being from Britain, I don't know any families who have done this. But kind of like the idea of it. What are your fav examples if first+middle+middle names? Thanks :)

My friend is Caitlin Rebecca Wray Lastname. She absolutely hates having 4 names. I had the same issue so I combined two names for my daughter but we just call her by the first first name. :) I had to get my mom on the birth certificate :)

I'm not sure... not two LONG LONG middle names because then it doesn't fit on a form ;) I had a friend who was Georgina Marie Joanna and her name never fit in the space!

I'm considering Aaron Charlie Edward so I can call him Ace :)

My daughter has two middle names. The first name is one we share. She is the fourth generation to have that name be part of her name and I hope if she has a daughter she thinking about continuing the tradition. Her second middle name is extremely special to me. It was my Grandmother's name. My Grandmother helped raise me. I will admit while it was a good name for someone born in the 1910s maybe not for someone born in the 1990s. My daughter never has to use her second name but it's a nice remembrance.

It's not unusual in my family, and repeats up the generations, with certain names being common, but not exclusively.

We are British, but as background are pretty much farm & factory workers so not an aristocratic thing by a long shot :)

Re combinations, I think it's rhythm that sets it for me, rather than certain names.

With the exception of using Helena Jean for middle names for a future daughter (for my husband's and my grandmas), I'm not a fan.

Three of my cousins (siblings) each have two middle names. I'm not keen... considering how rarely middle names are used anyways I just don't see the point. But it doesn't bother me really.

I have 2 middle names. My full name is Sylvie Shirley Jenny J.... If I have one advice to give it would be: Do not use the same initials as the usual name. When I write down that my middle initials are SJ, people automatically assume I made a mistake and put down my initials instead. My whole family have 2 middle names. Most French Canadian will have Marie or Joseph plus their godmother/godfather's name as middle names. My parents were a bit more original.

I think it's ok when done properly, although clearly something like Anabella Elizabeth Penelope is a mouthful and ridiculous. I know an Ana Marie Claire though, and I admit I sort of love it.

I'm in my 20's and I've noticed its quite rare for people my age but I know a handful of kids. Half of them have their mothers maiden name + another name.

With my surname thats 25 characters long, its fits on my license. Never had any problems with any paper work not having enough space.

All 3 of my girls have two middle names. I love names, and they all have family names as part of their middle names. They are:
Madeleine Allison Mae
Moira June Elsa
Miriam Victoria Byrd

I love names. My dad has two middle names, after both of his grandfathers: Timothy James Austin. He mostly just uses James so his initials are TJ. I love the idea of two middle names. When I got married, I moved my maiden name to a second middle name. I don't use it when filling out paperwork when it asks for my middle initial, I use my original middle name. But to me, it's nice to know I still carry on my maiden name. My husband wasn't too keen on two middle names with our first. But when our second was born and we couldn't agree on a middle name, he relented and we went with two. Maya Pearl Joanne (Pearl after my sister and Joanne after his grandma.) we mostly just use Pearl but sometimes we call her Maya P.J.

My sister has two middle names (I don't). I say go for it. Sometimes they can all flow really well together, and it's a good way to honour more people or just use more names that you like.

We did it because we had two deceased family members who we wanted to commemorate. My son is Calvin Mark Lewis Lastname. Mark after my dad who passed away when I was 8 months pregnant with him and Lewis after my husband's grandfather who practically raised him. Neither of his older sisters have two middle names, fwiw.

i love so many names that i've considered for most of my future children they will most likely have 3 names..heck my dog has 4 lol (Piper Isabel Ally Jo)

my husband and i for the longest x wanted to name any daughter we had Amelia Isabel Kate (i want something to do with katherine in my daughter's name since it's a family name and my husband likes isabel, he has a great aunt named isabelle/belle, and we both of us like amelia a lot)

now the name we're tossing around is Caitlin Dallas Rain (altho our gf doesnt like the name caitlin, my husband does like dallas on a girl and we all 3 of us like rain) oddly our gf liked my suggestion of Khaleesi Dallas Rain (nn Khalee) lol.

our gf's son's name is Christian William Lee soo ya kno it's already kind of an established thing lol. and my ex best friend's daughter's name is Abby-Anna Lily (they just call her Abby) which i always thought was quite lovely and unique from just your everyday Abigail :)

other 3 name combos i like (and may/have considered): Aislinn Evalena Shaye, John Darius Wilton, Christopher James Robert, Caley Elisabeth Rain, Amelia Elisabeth Kate, Connor Alex Donovan

I'm considering this for my unborn son, because my husband and I don't have the same last name and don't want to hyphenate. My last name is not one of those names that sounds really cool as a first name - it's obviously a last name. So just going with Benjamin Mylast Hislast seems kind of blah. Benjamin Gabriel Lastname or Benjamin Robert Lastname sound good but then I'm kind of lost in there. So maybe Benjamin Gabriel Mylast Hislast?

I can only think of one girl I knew when I was a kid, whose Catholic mother was from Quebec, and this girl actually had, like, four or five middle names. Her full name was something like Marie Stéphanie Juliette Charlotte [Hyphenated Lastnames], and went by Stéphanie. Even at the tender age of 9, I thought this was quite excessive.

I think in my mind, an exception to multiple names would be made where the first name is hyphenated, like Jean-Luc Maurice Picard, and he was known as Jean-Luc. ;-)
