My dad's parents had 11 kids, 28 grand kids and (so far) 30 great-grand-kids.I find it interesting to see the evolution of the names. My dad's generation were born between 1946 and 1966. My generation between 1969 and 1992 and last generation from 1996 to present. Interesting to know that only 2 of the great-grand kid still have the same last name as my grand-parent. I thought of giving my last name to my kids, but didn't seem right at time, Would you give your last name if you were the only chance for the name to go on?

I've definitely considered the last name question. Not that I plan on having kids, but my nephew has his father's last name, and my cousins each have the same last names as their moms, so it actually could just be up to me to pass the name along. I'm not sure if I would or not. But I would definitely seriously consider it.

I like:

Esther
François
Sébastien
Sylvie
Nathaniel
Virginie
Juniper (in a guilty sort of way)

I can't believe your gg parents had a Ghislain and a Ghislaine. Didn't that get confusing as hell?

I still think it's very odd to use the male and female versions of the same name for siblings, but given the number of twins named Michael and Michelle, Jayden and Jayda, Brian and Brianna, (http://pregnancy.about.com/od/babynames/qt/toptwinnames.htm) obviously there are other people out there even today who don't have a problem with this!

Thanks for this list, I love seeing the change in trends despite not knowing anything much about French names besides the rise in Genevieves and Vivennes that I know.

Love, love Estelle, Raphaëlle, Eve-Laurence & Élise, Amélie, Juniper

And Sébastien has always been a classic name to me, Robin is cute too

I know a few people who gave there kids two middle names so they could also include the mother's maiden name.

I'm in the position too of surname not being passed on. Father is only boy & only had daughters. My girlfriend and I cant get married yet, but I'm optimistic it will be in next 2 years which is when we plan to TTC. Mine sounds a little strange but easy to spell, a rare English surname, I wish it was Halliwell, but that's another from the family line.

So haven't figured out if we'll hyphenate but will seriously consider when it comes time to decide. At the very least will use it as a middle name.

Thank goodness I'm from Ottawa and can pronounced all these correctly. haha.

I love love Maxim, Antoine, and Germaine.

My favorite ever French Canadian names are male names that are hyphenated like Marc- Andre. yeah, you can thank Marc - Andre Fleury for that.
