i JUST saw this on a list of kids' names at my daughter's daycare. her daycare is pretty much run by Turkish women, so i imagine that is the name of one of their kids. i stopped when i saw that name because i'd never seen it before. i thought it was a boys' name though.
I know this isn't very culturally sensitive, I'm sure it's a lovely name to many people. But to me it just sounds like a strange alien creature in a sci-fi novel.
*giggle* a lot of very cultural names sound like this to me. as ours may well sound to someone from their culture. i would have a hard time using names from non-latin-based languages on my (very white) children.

Date: 2006-09-04 02:20 am (UTC)It's legit and I love it. It's a Turkish name. There are Arabic versions too spelled Zeinab, Zainab, etc.
It's a great name but people won't get it unless they know it's a widely-used name (variant spellings of it) around the world.
