German names
Apr. 7th, 2014 10:47 pmI'm from the UK, but currently living in Germany. There's something about German children's names at the moment that I find really interesting - I think it's that none of them are particularly German sounding, but on the other hand very few I would ever think of using myself. What do you think?

Date: 2014-04-08 12:26 pm (UTC)Robin not NMS for a first name but it could be a lovely middle name.
Rekkless-Leon and Leonie (g) are both long standing top 10 baby names in Germany. I love Leo but Leon doesnt seem as 'cool'. But the only Leon I know has very bogan teenage parents, but that's a lovely name his brother is called Blade.
Apparently Ben and Mia were the top 2013 names. The girls top 50 list in particular seems to have a certain style most start with L, and lesser extent J, M, I, E.

Date: 2014-04-08 07:07 pm (UTC)I've never met an English-speaking Leon. But I have met a couple of Leonie's.... never met a German Leonie though...
Hum, I've only met (well, come across at the playground) one Mia... I might have to google German names because apart from all the Phil(ip)s in the kindergarten I helped out at, I don't think I've heard doubles of any names!

Date: 2014-04-09 02:47 am (UTC)Phillip is in the top 20 according to the list I saw.
Mia is a top 5 name where I live but never meet one personally. I always find it interesting how some classrooms can have multiple doubles of names and other years none.
My mum works at a preschool there are 40-50 kids, only doubles are 2 Charlottes which is the top name in Australia plus 3 Dylans, including one girl Dylann.

Date: 2014-04-09 06:30 pm (UTC)Those names are the most recognisable to me as well (Leon, Max etc), but I've met two Gesas (one my age as well as the 9 year old), which is one I'd never heard before I met lots of German people!
