Chicken Names
We got 8 baby chicks last month and I thought I'd share the names with you! There are 4 different breeds, so my kids decided to use the same first letter for the chicks of the same breed.
Chloe (picked by my 11 y/o)
Callie
Matilda
Mabel
Hazel
Henrietta
Layla (picked by my 4 y/o)
Lucy (would have named my 4 year old this if he had been a girl, so now it's a chicken name!)
And a pic!

Henrietta - such a classic chicken name! Matilda, Hazel and Mabel are all cute 'farm names' too!
I'm curious - what are the breeds' names?

The H names are Rhode Island reds
The M names are white Plymouth Rock
The L names are barred rock :)

I love Henry but its a bit overused, Henrietta on the other hand, swoon worthy, Matilda too. I have a cousin called Tilly, which is her birth name she's in her 20's. I only made the connection a few years ago that its derived from Matilda when someone asked if it was a nickname because they had a toddler called Matilda.
Ha when I hatched chickens we called them Henny, Penny and Henny-Penny, not very original. They look like they have a lovely hutch home.

Tilly is a cute nickname for Matilda! I'll have to keep that in mind. Right now we aren't really calling them by name a whole lot but I bet when they start getting into my garden I'll be wanting to yell at them by name haha.
The home was definitely a big project! Should have given a little more thought to the cost involved when I thought I'd save money raising my own eggs lol

It looks huge! I can imagine how much work it would have been. Hopefully they will gift you with lots of eggs, because they have such nice digs & nice names.

Just thought I'd add that my daughters best friend at school spells her name Matylda - Matty for short, which can be confusing as her dad's name is Matt - short for Matthew I think.

Now, several chickens later, we don't name them anymore ;)
