I'm new here. I just wanted to post and say hi and ask what everyone thought about the name Joah for a boy. It's a biblical name. I've been trying to find something thats uncommon but not weird and something that is trendy or could become trendy. I don't want my kid to get picked on or have a dorky name. Never knew finding a name for a boy could be this hard.

Yep it is but i don't really know to much about it i found it in a baby name book. I think he is just somebody's son.

i think it sounds okay, but i would look it up and see who joah was in the bible before i would name my child that. it could wind up being a not-so-nice character. you know?

Is Joah a typo and you meant to say Jonah?...I'v never heard of Joah but I like Jonah very much!...C.

I like how it sounds but it sort of reminds me of the word "Jew" and kids may have their fun with that.

i think alot of kids will think the parents couldnt choose between Josh and Noah and pick fun of that..

My husband is a catholic school boy and reads the bible (which is funny cuz I am not and I don't read the bible) and asked him about the name to see if I could give you some info on the name but he has never heard of the name. He was asking me if it could possibly be a misprint and I told him I didn't know. But he does know about the name Jonah. Jonah was a prophet of God and would go where ever God sent him to spread his word. In the bibile Jonah was swallowed by a whale and was in there for 3 days until God decided to spit him out. And he went on to spread God's word some more. LOL I only know about bible stuff if it is on the veggie tales cartoons that my son has. ;P Hope this helped a little. Oh and I like either one Joah or Jonah. I have known only a few Jonah's and they are some great people.

Are you sure you aren't combining Noah and Jonah? I've never heard of Joah as a biblical name.

Joah actually is in the bible. I looked it up on here and asked about it on babynamesworld. Here is what i got:
Joah - meaning: God is his brother. - Son of Asaph. The official court recorder of King Hezekiah. He was one of three envoys sent by Hezekiah on a mission to the Assyrians. Others with this name: (i) Son of Zimmah. (ii) Son of Obed-Edom. (iii) Son of Joahaz, and also a court recorder, in this case, under King Josiah. [2 Kings 18:18]

Thanks for all the replies. Most people don't like it so i guess it's to wierd of a name so it's back to the drawing board.

Good to know! I'll let my husband know he was wrong and it IS in the bible.....bwwhahahaha! ;P I liked it......looking at your comment post I also like Joahaz. Different isn't neccassarily a bad thing. If you like it use it.
