[identity profile] laminy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Zara Phillips (daughter of Princess Anne, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth) and her husband Michael have welcomed their first child together, a girl, named Mia Grace (now sixteenth in the line of succession, though has no royal status or royal titles, like Zara).

It's so plain and boring to me, which I find surprising because I've actually always loved how awesome Zara's own name is. It also just doesn't really fit with the type of English names I always see posted on here.

WDYT?

Although Mia isn't a name I'd personally use, since that's what my dad named his dog. I think it's a pretty name, and I think it has a princess-y sound to it.

It's not stunningly original, but I like it. (And Mia makes me think of the Princess Diaries!)

I like Zara, but I love Mia. Grace is beautiful and I think Mia Grace is a wonderful combo. Mia also makes me think of the Princess Diaries.

Mia is very popular in the UK right now, though it's not a particularly royal name. Zara is notoriously down to earth, so I think it fits. I also just realised that Mia takes the Mi from Mike and the a from Zara!

I love Zara, as a fellow equestrian, and I don't dig the name but I get it. She's a very normal woman, her baby is NOT a princess and neither is she ... her baby will be a champion eventer cos it's in the blood. Mia works well.

I had two three thoughts based on your post:

1. Mia Grace is a nice, solid, normal name - NMS, but that's fine since I'm not her!
2. The Royal Family is not the average English family ;)
3. Zara is still a Royal and so why would she go for something Unique? Looking at the current names in the family: George, Henry, Elizabeth, Margaret, Anne, Michael, Charles - they don't go for out there.

So yeah my thoughts were, normal and slightly more trendy that I would have expected from a Royal :P

I think it's just kinda... bland. Both parts.

I love it. It's too simple, which is why I wouldn't use it. However, both names are truly pretty and nice together, unlike a lot of names I hear now.
I considered Grace for a middle name, but I feel like Aubrey makes it too simple as well. It just, almost, seems like a filler name.
I love the name Zara too.

Totally agree with everything you said. I've always loved Zara's name, and Mia Grace just seems so..generic? I would like it a bit better if it were Amelia Grace, nn Mia, but even then, Grace still isn't my favorite middle name, although it is better than Marie.
