What do you think of the name Ida on a little girl? At first I thought it was a little too old-fashioned but it's starting to grow on me. Also, do you think it will become popular in the near future, given it's proximity to Isla?

Date: 2013-12-27 07:22 am (UTC)Ida has a lot in common with Isla and other hits like Ava and Emma, but it has a somewhat harsher sound (because [d] is a stop, phonetically, rather than a nasal, glide or fricative) and it lacks touchstones. By touchstones I mean like, "think of a famous X" or "what does X make you think of". Isla makes people think of islands which many people associate with romance and beauty. Ava has Ava Gardner, Emma is a book by Jane Austen, etc. Now what does Ida make you think of? In the North American context, for most people, nothing, except probably a vague "old people" idea.
