Rue

I'm currently ruminating on the name Rue for a girl. I love the old English name Rumer, but DH has vetoed it, though he quite likes Rue. My issues are the Hunger Games popularity and the meaning of the name in English (regret) and French (street). I like the Greek meaning (herb of grace) but I don't know if it's strong enough against the other factors. She would join big sister Wren, so are Wren and Rue a bit matchy?

I love it and I think it pairs nicely with Wren... not too matchy at all. Of course, I love Hunger Games, but I think the name is lovely enough to stand on its own without the pop culture popularity.

As for the meaning, you sound like I did when I was pregnant with my son. My husband was fixated on the name Calvin, but I was concerned because it means "bald", lol. At the end of the day, we didn't let it deter us from using the name. Now my little Calvin is 18 months old and I have a hard time picturing him with another name, despite the fact that Calvin was NOT originally on my list.

I love the name Wren. I think Rue sounds nice, not one I'd personally use. However, saying outloud "Wren, Rue, come here" or something like that it seems to come out clunky to me. I don't think they're too matchy, just kind of hard to say together. But if you love the name, I say you should still use it!

I'm not sure... honestly, it makes me think so much of the Hunger Games and it sounds a bit matchy/matchy to me (the 'r' sounds, the nature connection...)

I like it - simple and elegant - and I do think by the time she's old enough to care, Hunger Games will have faded from pop culture a fair bit...

I think they sound very pretty together. I picked a name from Twilight, but most people don't make the connection and it didn't get popular like Bella did. I think by now, if Rue was going to explode, it would have after the first movie. Also, while some people connected the dots, since Twlight has run its course, I haven't had anyone at all make the connection, only while it was still being produced, etc.

I like the name Rue, but I think it's a bit matchy for Wren.

I don't think it's going to get that popular, though. I don't think any of THG names will.
