I kinda like the name Guy pronounced Gee (soft G) like the French way.  WDYT of it?

If you are in the USA, the common pronunciation is "guy" and the child would be forever correcting people.

You mean a J sound like "gee whiz"? Because the proper French pronunciation would be "ghee", with a hard G.

This is what I was going to say. It has been many many many years since my college French classes, but I could have sworn it was with the hard g.

So if the OP wants it like "gee whiz" I can't imagine anyone pronouncing it that way. They will either go straight to Guy like "hey you guys" or they will do it the French way I'm familiar with.

If you're french or living in an area with a large french population it's a great name. My husband actually works with a gentleman who is from Quebec whose name is Guy (Ghee). If those doens't apply to you then I'd probably steer away from the name because most people are going to call him "Guy".

As others have said the french is "Ghee". And I love the name Guy but not the french pronunciation. Also, he would spend his life correcting people which influences my decision.

Whenever I hear the French pronunciation I think of "ghee", the Indian clarified butter.

I like "Ghee," but in the US it will be said as "Guy" (like HEY YOU GUYS! lol)

See, I really love the British pronunciation and I really loathe the French pronunciation. (And in my mind, the French way = Ghee/clarified butter, immediately triggers a craving for curry! ;)

Ages ago we were considering Guy (British pronunciation) as a middle name and still got a lot of negative comments about it being a "stupid" and "confusing" name.
