This may be a pretty pointless post, but I figured I'd ask anyway because if anyone can be creative with names, it's you lovely people!

So my husband's name is Ian (middle name Patrick). He gets annoyed because I have stopped using his name and now exclusively call him "babe," (normal, right?) but he hates that, haha.

The problem is, he doesn't have a one syllable nickname I can use so I say "babe" instead of his name. He told me to think of a nickname if I really have a hard time spitting out two syllables, but the only one I can think of is "E" and I don't like that, haha.

Any ideas (I know it's not much to work with)? Anyone know an Ian with a nickname? Or better yet, any advice on how to come up with one, related OR unrelated to his real name?

I'm stumped! And I am usually the nickname queen!

I'd just call him Ian. He seems to like it much better than "babe" and it's really only two syllables. If it makes him happy, use his name.

Totally agree 100%, it would drive me crazy if someone refused to use my name and only called me by a nickname I hated. What's so hard about two syllables?

For unrelated you'd have to give us details about his personality/appearance. Red hair could give you "Red", or a slim build could be "Slim", wearing glasses "Specs" etc.

Ian is a form of John so you could use John or Jack which is a nickname for John.

How about his surname? Obviously you don't have to share it here but maybe it has a one syllable nickname waiting to be pulled?

I know what you mean about the one syllable nickname thing. After I'd been married about a year I started calling my husband "Gord" instead of "Gordon" a lot. It's weird when you think about it. I mean how much time does that one syllable save you? LOL.

Alternately you could come up with something really annoying. Then he'll beg you to go back to babe. Hehe. :)

I rarely call my husband by his first name (Anthony). I will call him babe or Ant, and I don't even say Ant because I like it or prefer it over Anthony (one of my favorite male names), it is just what comes out.

Could try out just the first sound in Ian (ee)? Sounds kinda weird, but it could work.

My friend's son is named Ian and everyone calls him Munch. Not very helpful but it's here to back up the fact that Ian is hard for nicknames. :)
