Names

We have decided on "Rohen" for a boy and "Arabella" for a girl.

No, Rohen isn't Rohan from Lord of the Rings. Nor it is "Rowan". It's Ro-hen. A strong H sound.

Arabella is, what it is.

Likes/Dislikes?

I really like the boy pick - such a great name!
While I personally don't care for girl pick it's not bad either.

I don't like either of them.

Rohen is hard to say.

I like Arabella.

i agree. i have to try very hard to say "Row-Hen." eventually I would just call him "rowen."

Meh. They are unique for sure. I like the nn Ro. But I'm Rosalie, so of course I do.

[identity profile] cocinadelfeto.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I like them both. :)

Arabella is lovely, I think. Rohen isn't my style, but it's interesting, and I don't dislike it. Nice choices.

I like Arabella alot even though it calls to mind the nasty character from Jude the Obscure.
:)

I'm thinking more like disney princess or something. I just can't see it on a real person. too... froofy?

[identity profile] neroli.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never heard of Rohen before - do you know its meaning and language of origin?

Thanks!

I can't say I love Rohen. Arabella is nice though .

Love.

[identity profile] tiffrobyn.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Love Arabella.

Rohen - Think you're going to get a lot of "Rowan" for the rest of his life though.

[identity profile] turabiannights.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It could bother him, though. I have a normal name that gets mistaken for a lot of other names, and it's always gotten on my nerves.

[identity profile] turabiannights.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew a Rohin once, and never really thought it was strange. I would think that Rohen would be misspelled a lot, though. Arabella is lovely, but I'd be wary of the thousand million other "Bellas" being born these days.

[identity profile] turabiannights.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's just sort of the natural nickname for Arabella. And there are a TON of Ella/Bella/Stella names circulating at present, so even if your Arabella didn't want to be a Bella, she'll probably get it anyway. It's too bad, I think, because it's such a lovely name.

I guess there's Ari, but then you've got the Ariels and Ariannas etc to share it with.

I don't like Rohen, but Arabella is pretty.

[identity profile] satunian.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't really like either of them

[identity profile] poespretty.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer Arabelle to Arabella. I do like Rohen in theory but I dislike the heavy H sound and the fact that you have to say it almost like two names in order to have the 'right' pronunciation you want (i.e.: Ro Hen.) I guess the bottom line is that it's just 'ok' for me.

[identity profile] sotypical42483.livejournal.com 2006-09-01 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I like them both. I do prefer Rowan to Rohan, but it's still a great name. Arabella is a lovely alternative to all the Isabella's running around.

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
If you didn't sound so insistant that the H must be pronounced, I would like Rohan. But it's incredibly difficult to say it differently from Rowan.

Arabella is quite nice, a bit frilly for my tastes but it's very pretty and nicer than a lot of the other bella names

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
oops I spelled Rohen wrongly!

[identity profile] x-lostinyou.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I think that is totally a testament to the fact that his name will constantly be misspelled, especially considering you JUST saw the name before you typed the comment. It's just not a spelling that'll stick, IMO.

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
haha and I'm usually a spelling nazi. I'm not sure why I misspelled it this time, I was just reading through all the comments and was focussing too much on the "h" in the middle and not so much on the rest of the name, probably.

[identity profile] x-lostinyou.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I understand, hehe. It totally wasn't a dig at you. It's just one of those spellings that seems to me would have people constantly checking and rechecking to make sure they remember how it's spelled.

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I'm not offended or anything, it was a great point. The fact that I usually care about spelling and still made that mistake only proves your point further =)

[identity profile] x-lostinyou.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like either. Rohen is pronounced so unnaturally, and Arabella is too trendy sounding. I'm sorry. Baby naming is so hard.

[identity profile] ellycopter.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
i prefer rohan to rohen.
and arabella reminds me of a spider (?)

[identity profile] x-lostinyou.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's because of Arachnid, hehe. I can see it.

[identity profile] solyma.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
they're way too weird for me.

[identity profile] glitterberrys.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
My kitty's name is Arabella Grace. I think it's a gorgeous name. (We call her Abby, though.)

[identity profile] mysticamor.livejournal.com 2006-09-02 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
i love both of them....they sound like great strong names.
