From a friend of mine who knows how much I love reading baby names...

"An acquaintance of mine is expecting her first daughter and these are the list of names she is choosing from...

*** Baby Girl Due December 16th!!! I've Narrowed It Down To These Names, Please Give Me Your Thoughts! These Are The Only Spellings I Like For Each!!!
Mariska/Mariscka/Mareska
Elsie/Elsee
Imogen/Imajen/Imojen
Kinlee/Kynley/Kynlee
Kinslea/Kinsley/Kinsly
Jaelah
Brodaleea/Brodaleaha/Brodaliea
Laklin/Laklyn/Layklin
Brooklynn/Brookelynn/Brookelynne"

Wow. Most of these are terrible with terrible spellings.
I'd go for Imogen out of those.

[identity profile] starcrossed.livejournal.com 2013-09-19 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Mariska and I like Elsie.

The middle spelling of Brodel-whatever it is looks like a yodel.

"Bro-de-lee-ay-ha-hoooooooo!"

hahahahha that's gold!

LOL You're right. :D

Mariska
Elsie
Imogen

I don't care for the rest. They seem too made up to me and not real names with a long history. Go with the standard spelling unless you have a darn good reason for using a nonstandard spelling - such as it is a legitimate spelling in your native language or from your ethnic heritage that you want to honor, and then be prepared for lots of misspellings and mispronunciation.

Oh, I assumed that you were posting for feedback to give to your friend. Maybe not? Anyway, if you are giving feedback to your friend, that is what I think.

Yeah, I figured that after I read your first reply. :)

Gosh I hope she picks a good name!!

It just got worse and worse as I scrolled down.

[identity profile] redfield79.livejournal.com 2013-09-19 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
these are just awful. Why

[identity profile] gf-girlie.livejournal.com 2013-09-19 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
No. D:

Imogen is okay and Elsie (although I only think of cows) isn't bad.

[identity profile] hermione-vader.livejournal.com 2013-09-19 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Mariska or Imogen are probably your best picks. I have no idea what's going on with some of these spellings. Is Brodaleea supposed to be a feminized version of Brody?

[identity profile] jaydestarlight.livejournal.com 2013-09-19 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Elsie sounds more like a nickname.
Kinlee, Kinslea, Brodaleea and Laklin sound like surnames.
Imogen and Mariska sound the most "normal' of the lot, but they aren't personally my style.
Jaelah sounds like a name you'd find in a fantasy fiction novel.

Imogen is one of my favourite names, and I'm embarrassed to see it in that company.

I vote for Brodaleaha or Layklin. They are just such classic, feminine names.

[identity profile] cremepuff.livejournal.com 2013-09-20 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Elsie and Mariska are the best ones out of that set. And combined as Elsie Mariska, I like them a lot!

The rest...ugh.

[identity profile] laminy.livejournal.com 2013-09-20 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I hope she goes for Brodaleaha.

But in all serious, I hope she goes for Mariska or Imogen, which are actually really nice names. I don't know how she likes those two and also likes Layklin.

[identity profile] chillinbabejodi.livejournal.com 2013-09-20 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Imogen and Elsie, so agreeing with most other people here I hope they go with one of those.

[identity profile] charuby.livejournal.com 2013-09-20 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Imogen and Brooklynn but without the extra n. So, Brooklyn.

*headdesk* I Just Love It When People Use Capital Letters In The Wrong Places!!!!

How in the world do you pronounce Brodaleea/Brodaleaha/Brodaliea??

Laklin I thought could be a messed up Lachlan/Lochlan, but the other spellings suggest "Lake-lin" which I just don't see as a name.

[identity profile] roseofjuly.livejournal.com 2013-10-07 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
I have never liked the name Imogen.

I like Kinsley, but I don't like any of the rest of these really.
