[identity profile] kkleigha87.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My SO and I have discussed future baby names. We are planning to have a family together at some point. For a girl's name we settled on Mabel. It is his great grandmothers name and no one in his family has used it. Does anyone have good suggestions for middle names to go with Mabel. I thought Mabel Grace sounded really pretty but then figured out it reminds me of Macy Gray. : /

For a boy, I like Dodger (I'm an English teacher and Oliver Twist is my favorite book). I also like the name Knight. Any thoughts?

I know that classic names are fashionable again, but Mabel is just too old-lady for me. I like May, though.

Dodger is not a good name. Too close to dodgy (British word for untrustworthy/illegal). Knight is a bit pretentious. Maybe as middle names, but not as first names.

I love Mabel, though it is a bit old fashioned. I also love it paired with Grace. Dodger and Knight - - please don't do that to a child. Use one of them as a middle name.

I hink Mabel sounds best with a classic type name, maybe something like:
Mabel Emily
Mabel Gemma
Mabel Fiona
Mabel Violet
Mabel Edith
Also I like how you have a choice of nicknames if you want to- May or Belle.

I agree- Dodger and Knight I don't think work as first/given names. They'd make OK middle names with something more traditional. Or maybe something a little more mainstream. Instead of Dodger, how about Dexter?

I love Mabel
Dodger just reminds me of the Baseball team and Knight just isn't a first name to me.
Perhaps Jack, which is the Dodgers actual name. Or Oliver. I know both are popular names but they are pretty classic as well.
or Arthur with the nickname Art (Art-ful Dodger, yeah it's a bit of a stretch but Arthur is such a nice name).

The doctor I work for goes by Knight (his middle name) and I think it really fits his personality! It makes me think of the whole knight-in-shining-armor thing & that's kind of him. He became a doctor legitimately for his love of helping people and not the money. I've seen him say "Oh don't charge so & so. They have a lot of medical bills and are struggling right now, I'm just gonna see them for free right now." He's pretty great and he definitely lived up to his name! :D

Dodger is a bit much for me. I really like this old horror film, and the main female's name is Dodger, and I think it's just ridiculous. I think Dodger and Knight would both work better as middle names.

Mabel is pretty.

Weird as it may be I like Dodger! I actively dislike Knight though.

I love Mabel! I'm echoing everyone else saying I dislike dodger and knight. To me, they're just not names. How about Kingsley? Or Oliver, Jack, Charley/Charlie or Noah which I believe are all character names from Oliver Twist? I also second the suggestion of Arthur which I love.
I've known two people with the nickname Dodger, one was Mark and the other was Artie so maybe just you could use it as a pet name instead? I do prefer Knight over Dodger if you're set on using one.

Sorry, this is long and pretty jumbled. I blame baby brain.
