New baby Sophia Elisabeth joins big brother Judah Blue.

I think that Sophia and Judah make a good sibset, but it's funny to me how different his name is and how normal and common her name is. The parents made a big deal about not wanting to share the baby's name until she was born to avoid people stealing it, which is kind of funny considering Sophia is one of the most popular girl names in the US, right now anyway. It's not like people weren't already using it. Needless to say, after 9 months of waiting to hear this spectacular treasure of a name, I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't something more exotic.

First time parents Ryan and Lindsay welcomed baby boy Asher William.

I personally love Asher and it's a nice combo and a strong name.

lol I hate sophia!!! It's soooooooooooo overrated and so done. lol I had to laugh when you said they were worried about people stealing it.

Sophia Elisabeth is lovely, but yeah, lol-ing a bit at the concern over other people using Sophia. It's not just one of the most popular girl names in the US right now; it's THE most popular girl name. Well, that's as of the 2012 rankings. I suppose it could be dropping in usage this year. *shrugs* I feel kind of bad for them if they had no idea it was #1 though.

I think Sophia and Judah are fine as a sibset. I like the (possible) nicknames better together though: Jude and Sophie. I don't know if they use/plan on using nns. As far as the brother's name, Judah is fine, not a favorite but fine. I really don't like it with Blue though. I think it's got an odd sound together, and I don't like it as a name by itself.

Asher is a name I am fairly neutral on, but I agree that Asher William is a strong name. It's a really great combination.

To be fair, there's always pregnant women at my church and surprisingly, there's no Sophia so my guess is that they didnt want anyone they knew to take that name. But even if she's the only Sophia in a church of 300 people, she's definitely not going to remain the only Sophia outside those walls, haha.

I don't know about nicknames for Sophia, but they sometimes call Judah Ju-Ju. I don't mind the combo with Blue so much only because I found out its a family name and his dad also shares the middle name.

Yeah, I kind of figured it was more about not wanting people they knew to use the name. It just struck me as kind of funny since I know it was ranked #1 last year, but like I said, I feel bad if they wanted a less used name and just didn't realize its popularity. I wasn't meaning to make fun or anything. I hope it didn't come across that way.

Ju-Ju makes me think of jujubes (candy), juju beads, and bad juju. :\ Blue isn't so bad since it's a family name, but I still don't like it with Judah. I think it's because they both have the long u/"oo" sound.

Oh no, you're fine! Didn't come across mean at all :) I totally agree with you. I know that they've had that name picked out for a while, so maybe the did know and just didn't care that it was so popular? If their son had been a girl they would have named him Sophia and she was pregnant with him in 2011, and it was rising in popularity that year, right?

I love Sophia and Elisabeth; together they are beautiful. (I am in the minority of those who are a fan of classic names; I don't care if they are popular.)

Judah isn't really that different around my circles. Although I do think Blue is an odd middle name for Judah.

I like Asher William. Classic, but different.
