Possible Musical Sibling Set

I was in a store today and heard a mother call out to her two sons.

"Jacks and Jagger, come on let's go!"

I can only assume that Jacks(or Jax?) is short for some form of Jackson.

What do you think?

Personally I dislike both names but actually not because of the musical reference. I can see that being a potential problem with some picking on once the other children realize the connection but if the children are confident in their names then it shouldn't have any more weight than any other name that is the same or similar to a character/personality.

I don't like the style of Jagger, the word itself feels awkward to me and I wouldn't have chosen it as a first name. I just associate it with being a second beat and it does make me think of the alcohol. Overall though I think it's just not my style.

As for Jackson, I use to like it more than I do now. With the variations and growing popularity, I no longer have the same sense of "unique" and "cool" that I used to. Not Jackson/Jaxon/Jaxxon etc just make me think of it being over used and trendy. The more I see it used, the less I like it. I also don't like it in this case because I think it's referencing the musician and that legacy is not something that I would want to leave my child with. It just has too many negative points for me now.

When it comes to the names as a sibset: they're both the last names, they both bring up images of the musicians and both names start with J. You can tell the parents were really going for a theme. Together it's just a little too much for my taste.

Jack Daniel didn't even dawn on me. Lord, now I feel even worse for those boys. I automatically assumed it was short for Jackson because the mom quite clearly said "Jacks". Never thought that it could be a variation of Jack Daniels.

Way to go, poor naming choice.

A friend of mine had two cats named Millie for Miller beer and Jenny for Genesee, but those were cats. These names are just so wrong for actual human children, if they are based on liquor. Jax is ok on its own, but Jager is terrible.

I don't see how you made the leap from Jax to Jackson. She might just like J names, and they might not be references at all.

Because the other child is called Jager. If it had been just the one I wouldn't have batted an eye but the moment it was Jacks and Jager one has to wonder.

Yeah, I'm still not getting it. Has Jackson ever gone by Jax? Is there any link between Jagger and Jackson? I think the answer to both is no, so I don't understand why you would make that connection. Jagger is probably a reference to Mick, but I doubt Jax is a connection to anyone.

Oddly enough, if you Google "Jax and Jagger", you fin a Facebook album of a mother whose sons are Jax and Jagger.

I don't know about you but here Jax is a very common short form of Jackson or it's variations.

I just did what you did and googled it. Ended up coming across a birth announcement in the local paper from about six years ago for babies called Jaxon and Jagger. Chances it's the same twins?

Also if you are naming one child after a musicians last name and you pick a second name that sounds (though isn't spelled apparently) like a musicians last name, how would you not expect people to assume that...

I've never in my life heard Jax used as short for Jackson. Again, I wouldn't assume that because I don't associate Jax with Jackson.

That seems so strange to me. Here Jax/Jacks is used quite often as a pet name or short form of Jackson. I work in child care and am friends with several other child care workers. Jackson/Jaxon/Jaxxon are all VERY common right now and I can name at least 20 children that I've worked with/that I know outside of work or that I've heard of. I'd say at least half are called Jax/Jacks at least on a part time basis. I only know three or four children simply called Jack.

For refrence that it's not just my area, the main character on Sons of Anarchy is called Jackson but goes by Jax 90% of the time. Out of curiosity. Have you seen Jax used as a name on it's own?

Huh. What region do you live in? Yeah, I've only seen Jax as a name on its own. Then again, I've known exactly one Jackson my entire life, and he went by his full name.

I know of multiple Jackson's (or variations there of) including TWO little girls called Jaxxon and Jaxon. The first Jaxon I babysat in high school, so I'd say she's about 8 now(?) her brother is called Ryder (they own horses...) and the second, Jaxxon) was a Welcome Wagon visit that my mom did about two/three years ago. The ones I know outside of my area are from the Toronto and Ottawa regions.
