[identity profile] roxtarrr.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I made a joke on FB a few days ago about ridiculous spellings of regular names and decided to try it out on my own. Here's what I came up with:

My actual spelling: Catherine
"Unique" spelling: Khaetharyghnn

Obviously it's a little more goofy and over the top than I think (hope!) most people trying to make the name "special" would go but that was the point.

I thought it would be fun to share and see what other people come up with for their own names, too. :)

Also, on a somewhat separate note - what are your thoughts on Jaxson?
I've seen two babies in the last couple months named this and as much as I like the name itself -it kind of drives me nuts with the X and S.

Well, Caethwrynne, IMO Jaxson is terrible, terrible, terrible.

Khaetharyghnn is wonderful. I think you should start using it immediately. Hmmm...my name might be Rhahbbynne. Yes! That's how I'm spelling it from now on. :D

Jaxson is terrible. Jackson is great, though.

Jaxson shouldn't be used for another generation or two when we might actually have kids who are the sons of men named Jax.

My name already has a billion variation spellings, but you could get crazy with Staysi or something.

Well my name is Aimee so by some people's standards already "unique" (although, you know, totally legit). But going off what I remember my friends coming up with in yearbooks... the most unique were Aymey or Amiqeeyphlf (you know, a ton of silent letters)... I could totally see someone using Aymey though.

I've genuinely seen my name (Kirsty) spelt Qiorstaidh.

Maybe it's just the ending, but Qiorstaidh looks wonderfully faux-Celtic.

That's exactly what I was thinking! Someone trying to be celtic and failing miserably.

My cousin named his son Jaxxson.... not sure why the double x.... Seems the name is popping up everywhere since the death of Michael Jackson. I prefer the original spelling if I have to chose.

My you-nique name could be spelled: Pseelvee (I guess) but people have a hard time enough spelling it correctly! I've had lots of Slyvie, Silvie, and Silvye. I much prefer Sylvie :)

Jackson is alright (I met an adorable Jackson the other day at work---spelling unknown though). Jaxson/Jaxon/Jaxxson all look a little too creative to me.

I guess Mary Grace could be Mayreigh Ghrayse.

I was going to make a post about Jaxon the other day but figured it wasn't worthy of a whole entry haha. I hate it. Just hate it.

Haha I actually checked your profile to see if you were local to me because a newborn Jaxon JUST popped up on my newsfeed hehe

I've only seen one other variation of my name, the Arabic form Nadeen. But let's see...

Ngaghdhynn

I don't like Jaxson at all, at all. A friend of mine named one of her sons Jackson, though, and I like that.

If my parents were a little more cr8tive, I could go by Raehbbayckah

I'm not a fan of Jaxson on a baby. Before the baby trend, my cousin named her dog Jaxson, but her lastname starts with Jack-, so it kinda fits well for her dog. Keyword: Dog. I feel this would also be a good name for a cat or even a bird. I hate the "x" trend.

Add a silent G at the begniing for fun and some other letters. If Lee and Leigh are the same, you could be Gneighoumeigh.

Gneighoumeigh is epic! I'm nowhere near creative enough at naming to have come up with that.

Reauzalee is as cre8ive as I could get. Thoughts?

I don't like Jaxson, but I don't mind Jax as a nn for Jacqueline or Jackie or even Jackson. Keyword, NICKname.

Cehra for Sarah? Once I told someone my name is "Sarah with an H" and they wrote "Shara." lol.

And Jaxon is my guilty pleasure name. I like it but think it's awful at the same time, and would never use it...but I still kinda love it. Without the S though.

I love JACKSON, not Jaxon, Jaxson, Jakson, etc... My name is Aida some people pronounce it I-ee-da and other A-da, and I have received mail with the spellings of Haida, Aide, Adia, Aija and a few others. That being said the only unique spelling I can think of is depending on how you pronounce it: ieeduh and Aye'da.

I like Jackson. Jaxon/Jaxson/Jaxsyn (yes I've seen it) not so much.

My name, Nikki, already has so many legit spellings. Umm......Nykkie?

My name is naturally Miranda, which is apparently really easy to misspell the first vowel, but if I was going "you-nique", I'd probably do something like M'rahndé.

Can't decide which I like best, Jowdeh, johdi or jowdeigh... Haha

I don't mind Jackson. I LOVE Jack and I think Jackson provides an easier route to a name that flows well, not that I'd ever use it personally. Jaxson, however, I just can't comprehend.

Actual name: Laura Caitlin

Kre8iv name: L'awrah K8lynn

...I'm ashamed to say that I early high school, when I was "one of the Lauras," I seriously considered spelling it L'aura or Laurah or Laurra or Laure. 14-year-olds should be prohibited from any kind of decision-making.

Given name is Laurel. I could just about punch people for the gross spelling combinations they've come up with. From the top getting progressively more wrong: Laural (not too bad), Lorel (thanks but no), Lural (NOPE!), Luralle (is your head okay from that fall you've clearly taken?), Lorrelle (why the double letters)! Do Laura's and Lauren have this problem too or are people just too stupid to spell my name?

Also Jackson in any way shape or form it is probably one of my most hated names right now after Isabella/Bella and Abigail. About seven years ago I met a wonderful little girl named Jaxon. It was cute, it was unique and it suited the spunky personality that the whole family shared. I really liked it. It's been down hill since there. Since it started popping up everywhere I've grown to loathe it more and more. I even dislike the original because now a child with a regular name will have to be asked how it is spelled. And the variations. Jaxxon, there's not need for double x. Jaxson looks bloody unbalanced. No thank you!

I'm a Kathryn too. :) And I have seen a Katherine spelled with a Q. Which was horrible.

If I'm being honest, I really hate Jaxson. I have a hard enough time with Jackson because it feels like it is everywhere lately. And I've had at least two coworkers go the "x" route (one has a Jaxon, the other a Jaxxson--ugh!) and it just looks trashy, IMO. Both specifically mentioned using that spelling so they could use "Jax" as a nickname.

I'm really not a fan of the X trend in general, unless the name in Xanthe. :)

When I was in the 8th grade I used to spell my name (Melissa) as "Melysa" because I wanted to be kre8tiv and different. My 8th grade teacher (strict and uncreative herself) made me stop.

I don't like Jaxson. I don't like the name Jackson as a first name anyway, and Jaxson just makes it more irritating.
