I feel like the fussiest baby namer in the world!

Future-baby may be here sooner than I initially thought (think: in the next two years) which I'm really happy about but I'm so super-fussy about names. I have a list, then I hate it an throw it away and start over!

Anyway, I'm from a huge family (my mom has 40 cousins!) and I don't want to 'steal' any names from anyone else. I'm also a teacher and seem to therefore have conotations associated with just about every name. I like classic names, traditional ones I can imagine my mom and nan saying without thinking... 'what?!'

Here's what I have so far. I really like the boy's name George but my partner doesn't ("it's too old-fashioned") but it's also taken by a friend of mine. His favorite name is Joshua (but I have bad associations of that name.) For girls, I don't have anything I really like but Selena is super-traditional in my family and used for generations. I like it OK, and could use it if I was desperate.

Any ideas or suggestions of where to start?

I feel your pain (I'm also a teacher!)

One name that I thought of when reading your partner and your likes was Samuel. It's old fashioned, but also biblical like your partner's favorite name. (It's funny. I love this name, but it's the name of my toughest student this year!)

I start with astronomy and mythology, but then, I'm weird.

George is definitely getting more popular with the current generation. so maybe find it on a list somewhere? I personally know two of them, who are 4 and almost 2. Joshua is also a nice name, and maybe you need to stop having associations with students. I get the family association thing, your family is forever, but a student will come and go and not affect your child for his whole life.
