(no subject)

I started a new job yesterday and one of my co-workers has two kids, a boy named Dakota (nn Koty) and a girl named Iliana. I'm not sure how I feel about Dakota. It's cute but when he gets older I don't know... And his mother says people always misspell his name CODY (I wonder why.... lol).

BUT... I do like Iliana. In fact lately I think I have pretty much fallen in love with the name Eliana, which is quite close. But I like the E spelling and pronunciation better.

What do you all think?

Eliana is cute. I knew a couple who's middle names were Eliott and Ana, and it was a combo of the two, so if they had a daughter, that was what her name was going to be.

Eliana is on my short list which can be found here with explanations! (http://mrsduryee.livejournal.com/101225.html#cutid1) and I absolutely love it! A family friend of Chris's named their daughter Eliana a couple of years ago, and I fell in love then.

Iliana sounds very Russian to me, and obviously like you I would prefer the Hebrew spelling with an E. :)

oh, and I think the names don't sound good together at all! You'd never guess Dakota and Iliana even came from the same family, which isn't super important, but I think they should at least sound like they have the same mom and dad, if they do, ya know?

I think Eliana is a pretty name. I like the way it sounds and looks.

I like Dakota (a lot)...but for a dog...I don't know why.

I pronounce Eliana and Iliana completely differently. Iliana to me would be pronounce ee-lee-ah-nah. I love it; Ileana is my grandmother's name and I plan on using it someday. Eliana to me is Eh-lee-ah-nah, the Hebrew name that means 'my God has answered'. I love Eliana as well.

I hate Dakota though. :-D

Dakota is a group of people, not a name.

Koty makes me think of Kotex.

[identity profile] elemmennope.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I thought the same thing. And then realized it was Kotex. Koty is something though... makeup? Or cheap perfume?

[identity profile] ms-cucumber.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Coty is a perfume manufacturer.

Lmao. I have a friend named Cody, and we call him Kotex all the time. (And often 'Kotex, it fits... period!')

I knew a girl in high school named Dakota. I liked it for her (she was unique and artsy) so I'm having a hard time with it as a boy's name.

I prefer Iliana to Eliana.
I like I's :-) I know an Ilona, i also think that's very pretty.

I have known an Iliana and an Eliana. Bad associations with both of them, but besides that, I really like them.

Iliana is rather pretty. I actually like the I spelling better, but then I like more "I" names than almost any other letter!

Dakota I do not like. It sounds like a name for a Siberian Husky. On people, it sounds very trendy to me whether it's a boy or girl. And NO ONE is going think to spell it "Koty"! If I hear that name, I'm going to think "Cody" too.

[identity profile] shyloh.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That's exactly what I think about the name Dakota!

[identity profile] elemmennope.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Eliana and Iliana are pretty.

I think Dakota is an awful name, boy or girl. It's on my (short) list of names I hate.
