1. My 2 fav names for a boy lately seems to be Gabriel and Donovan. I proposed either Gabriel Donovan or Donovan Gabriel for our boy name (just found out we're preggo) and he's actually ok with the names (he favors Gabriel Donovan). I'm unsure though if the two go well together or if my love for both names is clouding my judgement.

So, wdyt? Do the two names go together (first and middle)? Which do you think works best? What other middle names would you suggest? Also, twins are common in the fam. Do you think Gabriel and Donovan as seperate boy twin names works? What other names would you suggest for either one twin-wise? ( Gabriel and ----- , Dononvan and -----). I think Lucien and Gabriel go awesome together, but Lucien is already my 1 year old's name.

ETA: Donovan Lamont (first and middle, both scottish/gaelic) and Gabriel Isaiah (first and middle, both hebrew/biblical). Kinda liking both of those. The hubs approves of twin names of Gabriel Lucus and Donovan Gray/Blake.

2. We decided to tell everyone a fake boy name for this one, for various reasons. The name: Mustang Maximus. ( Tang for nn! :D ) Everyone's been asking for a 2nd/backup name, in case of twins and so I'm leaning towards Wolfgang *something* So now I'm curious on if anyone else has done a joke name, and if so, what was it? Any good stories from it?

I'm almost 9 weeks and we've taken to calling it Fieldy Fetus until we know if it's a boy/girl. Haha. Our last name is Fields. :)

I met a young boy (7 or 8) named Donovan the other day! I think it's a great name.

I have a nephew name Gabriel and he's awesome. (He's too old to be adorable) Gabe is a great buys name. Donovan is one of my favorite names and it on my list of potential names should we have more kids.

Something that is obviously based on your favorite movie/tv show/ book is always good. For example, we like Supernatural but Sam and Dean are too normal and don't highlight the obsession enough. So I'd go with Castiel or Crowley for the fake baby name. You just have to practice saying it with a straight face so as not to give it away as a joke.

That where I am. I love the name but I feel like committing to it would be terrible parenting so I'm just going to have to name a dog Castiel. Or a D&D character or something.

Is it bad that all I can think is, "I'd rather see someone name their child Castiel than Destiel"...

Hahaha, if I ever told my family I was naming my kid Crowley, my mom would probably ask me if the middle name was Lucifer :)

I could never actually use Castiel, but I love the nickname Cas.

I love Gabriel Donovan. I love both names and I think they sound great together.

I ~love~ Mustang Maximus as a joke name. The nick name Tang is fantastic. :D

Wolfgang Wyatt? Wolfgang Waldo? Of course, the nickname would be Gang to match Tang! ;D

I'm also currently pregnant, and we've have a joke name from the beginning. We call him/her 'Fester the Fetus.' It cracks people up, that's for sure.

'Friends of mine just named their new son Donovan, which I like, but they nicknamed him 'Dino' -- which I hate. I dunno what you're planning to nickname, but be wary!

I know a Donovan "Dino" too. He's 3 or 4.

My daughter Maelle (my-EL) is called Meeper by her sister, or sometimes Mimi. Well, we all call her Meeper or Meeps sometimes. Nicknames sometimes evolve that don't sound anything like the original name, and those are usually the ones you can't decide on ahead of time. If you HATE Don/Donny, though, just be sure to correct people when they call him that, and by the time he's 5 or so, he'll let people know what he wants to be called.

They pronounce it Dee-no. Just, ugh. I would prefer Die-no.

Hey, for all you know he could end up as a Van or Nova. There's lots of options.

I prefer Donovan Gabriel, simply because Donovan is less common than Gabriel. Yes, they work as first and middle names, and for once, I think either order is fine. They also work as sibling names. Wolfgang Wendall? To go with the double letter (Mustang Maximus is 2 Ms). And Wendall isn't a great name IMO. Or Wolfgang Worchestershire Wendall III. Just for fun.

Joke names! YAY! My aunt's last name is Chenette and when she was pregnant with my cousins, each time she'd joke to my mom that she'd name the baby Kit.

My parents joke name for my sister was Clem Dirk. They found those in a baby name book and thought they were awful, so of course they stuck as the fetal name.

My fetal name for my first was Honeysuckle, because when I was 7, I wanted a girl and a boy named Honeysuckle and Honeybee. My second was fetally named Cack Cack, because my 2 year old thought we should name the baby that. (Course, then the baby started talking about couldn't pronounce her sister's name and called her Caca. She got her back for Cack Cack). I also called both babies "the tapeworm" while gestating, for obvious reasons.

Mitchell is my maiden name! There is a Mitch in my family, but his last name isn't Mitchell. He was just named to honor the family name because it wasn't his last name.

I can't stand the name Donovan, so middle if anything. I don't really think it goes too well with Gabriel, the whole classic v. trendy (even if it's not popular enough to be "trendy" it has that sound to it. probably largely the -n ending)

we pick fake names that go terribly with our last name. like, that sound too similar or what not.

Well, and Jason Donovan, the 80s pop singer. :P My pre-teen sister SWOONED over him so hard.

Gabriel is more common but I don't know that it's trendy. I know several in my generation and it's biblical so it's gonna be classic no matter how popular.

I wouldn't think of Donovan as a WWII era name.. I wonder how common it was back then. it sounds like a nice association to have, no wonder you like it so much :) the only one I can think of with that name is the actor who played joe in blue's clues. :P

I prefer Donovan Gabriel. Be prepared for the nickname Donnie though!

I think they're great as two separate names. If it were to be twins I could see maybe:
Donovan Oliver or Gabriel Alexander, paired with a more classic middle name.

My parents told everyone they were calling me Fluffy. They referred to my sister as Peter because I wanted a brother called that. I ended up with a sister named Danielle (Danni.) They picked Daniel (Danny) for a boy too (real original!) I asked my parents if they'd have caved and called the baby Peter but they said they didn't know because "he" was always called Peter by everyone.

I'm not a big fan of Donovan, tbh, but I think Gabriel Donovan goes well together. I like that choice over Donovan Gabriel.

We didn't have a joke name that we passed off in all seriousness, but we do usually pick utero names/nicknames since we don't find the sex out ahead of time. My oldest baby was Ötzi and my most recent baby was Guillermo, but I can't for the life of me remember what we called our middle girl. Maybe she didn't have one.

Donovan and Gabriel don't go together very well to me. Donovan is Scottish, yeah? And Gabriel is very biblical.

I guess they sound just as well one way as another, but my first instinct was to say Donovan Gabriel sounds better. That may be just because I like Donovan better. It's actually on my list.

I saw that you're not thrilled with the nn Donnie. I like Novan for it, said like no-vin, not no-van.

Forgot to mention--joke names: My dad would joke about naming one of us kids Ferris Wheeler. He also liked Buford. Never have been too sure if that one was a joke or not.

38 weeks, didn't find out if baby is a boy or a girl, and we're not even completely sure on names. We're telling everyone Ganymede if it's a boy and Mehitabel if it's a girl. We actually had a few people say they liked Mehitabel. Quite a few didn't realize I was joking.

Ganymede is a moon of jupiter. Mehitabel was an alley cat in a story. I usually can't keep s straight face long enough to convince them. Most of my friends know I'm weird enough.

My roommate and I were going through her family history on Ancestry.com and she's got a Mahatabelle. I fell in love with it as a concept because it just sounds so bizarre but also really classy. That being said, she was the person who started the "move to Canada from New York and start marrying cousins or uncles/nieces" trend that one branch of my roommate's family has. Apparently there's a whole town in Southern Ontario that's related to them. Luckily it's a very distant relationship.

Hmm I like Gabriel a lot, Donovan isn't a favorite but it's nice. Having said that, I think Donovan Gabriel flows better, but I would prefer Gabriel Donovan if you had to use both for one kid.

I think that Gabriel and Donovan are both so different, but not so different that it would be weird if you used them as twin names. It would be refreshing actually to hear twins with such differing names.

I don't like Gabriel Isaiah because its too obviously Hebrew/biblical. Some ideas:

Gabriel William
Gabriel Richard
Gabriel Kenneth
Gabriel David
Gabriel Andrew
Gabriel Matthew
Gabriel Marcus
