A customer has been coming in to my shop, quite regularly, this past month. I'd never seen her before this, and she's constantly calling her daughter over, who I'd put around 5.

Her daughter's name is Shy. I'm not sure if it's spelled that way, but it's definitely the way it sounds. I suppose it could be Shai, or Chai. Though I'm more inclined to think her name is Cheyanne. I kind of want to ask her, because I'm curious, but how would I go about it? Should I mention that it's an unusual name or something and that I like it? Or what?

I have an online friend called Shiera. I had been saying it SHEERA for ages and then a few people appeared who were giving her the nickname Shy.

I had a kid who came to my old store a lot called Sebastian. His mother made a big deal about how it was an A in there instead of an E but I just told him his name was awesome :D Probably a compliment is the best way to go about it, even if you don't really love it XD

Most likely it is short for Cheyenne(I have two friends, one with a Cheyenne, one with a Sheyanne, and they're called Chey/Shey), but I would compliment the name, and she'll probably tell you.

A girl where I work was calls Shiannah (Shy-Anna). She was an adopted at an older age (7 1/2-8 ish) so I think it was her birth name. One lady I work with insisted on calling her Shania but then again, she pronounced my name incorrectly for the first nine months I worked there and even after two and a half years she still calls my co-worker Thea "Tee-Ah". She blames it on speaking French but it's her second language and she speaks it with an English accent so -_-....

These days, it could be short for Shiloh as well as Cheyenne. You can say, "Shy is a pretty cool name." The mother might then mention what's short for or if it's just Shy.
