Been keeping a little list of names I’ve spotted at work and thought I’d finally get round to posting them all.

A couple of names I thought were really unusual Luzette Katrina and Harland.

I’ve never heard the name Luzette before and I’m not sure how to pronounce it. From what Google told me, it’s a Spanish name, which makes sense. Does anyone know any more about it? I actually love Harland and it makes me think of Justified and the characters in that (e.g. Arlo, Raylan, Boyd) and other names like Beau and Austin. It’s a very American name which I love (at least it comes across that way to me as an English girl.)

Talking of American names, as a side note, my dad has always said that him and his brothers have very American names (which he thinks was a sign of what was to come as his mum ran away with an American man when he was a kid…but that’s a different story!) My dad’s name is Dean and his brothers are called Daryl, Melvyn (nn Melly/Mel) and Lee. Does this come across as a particularly American sibset to anyone?

Talking of sibset’s, this is another one spotted at work: Breylin Ebony, Brogan Lucas and Mistie Rae. Blurgh. I like Lucas and I quite like Rae but all the others are not my cup of tea and all together…it’s just too much.

Also saw this but not sure if they are a sibset or cousins or something. They were definitely related somehow as four of them had the same surname. Anyway the names are Hallie, Brodie Eve, Chloe Nicole and Cody Neil (all the same surname) and Phoebe (only one with different surname). I love, love, love Hallie although it feels more like a nickname to me. Any ideas what name it could be a nickname for? I also really like Phoebe and it makes me think of Friends and that can never be a bad thing. Brodie is nice to but I always think of it as a boy’s name although I think that would be Brody.

Last one! I’ve always loved this name but was never sure of the spelling: Adrienne. I asked her about it and I’m pretty sure she said she pronounces it ah-dree-EHN although I prefer the pronunciation AY-dree-uhn (Like Adrian but for a girl :P) Probably one of my favourite girls names.

I don't think of Beau as particularly American, since it's so obviously the French spelling. We'd just spell it Bo. :) But you dad's sibset does seem knd of American, especially Dean and Daryl.

Ah ok, so Bo. I just always think of it as Beau lol! I think I associate it with America because of House of Wax (the remake...) where I'm pretty sure one of the baddies is called Bo.

Yeah, he's always said they have very American names. I think Lee isn't that American, but the others are.

Dean and Lee don't come across as American to me because I went to school with a lot of kids with these names. My boyfriend works with two Dean's and a handful of Lee's as well. Melvyn sounds typically English to me. Sounds like a bumbling old man who likes to drink tea lol. Daryl is the most American sounding name of the bunch.

I have seen Luz as a Spanish female name, so I'm assuming Luzette is a variation of that. My pronunciation guess would be "loo-ZETT," but I could be wrong. :)

Beau/Bo does strike me as being a very Americanized name--and a Southern one, at that. I think one of the characters on the show Dukes of Hazzard was named Bo.

I do like Adrienne--either pronunciation. I've heard it pronounced a third way: ay-dree-ANN. The girl in question had a male classmate named Adrian in grade school, so teachers added the ANN to the end of her name to distinguish between the two. To this day, I don't think they really asked her before deciding to do that...

Luzette seems to me to be a Spanish variation of the French name Lucette (pron. loo-SET), which is a feminine variation of Luke. Which makes sense linguistically: Latin Lucius, meaning "light", and luz means light in Spanish.

Your dad's brothers' names do seem very 50s-muscle-car-shades-and-cigarettes-brooding-loner-in-tight-jeans names to me. X-D
