A girl I work with mentioned the names they'd use for their hypothetical children.

Girl - Spencer Rose.
Boy - Seth Scott or Ashley Scott. (Not sure on any spellings, so I just assumed the usual ways)

The boynames I'm kind of indifferent to, but I actually ADORE Spencer Rose for a girl, even though I don't think I'd ever think to use it myself.

*shrug* thoughts?

I don't like Spencer for a girl but it isn't the most atrocious thing I've ever heard.

I love Spencer for a girl, there is an actress, who I can't remember, who has a daughter named Spencer Margaret and that has always stood out to me. But if you name a girl Spencer and then name her brother Ashley, it really seems kind of dumb to me, even though I know traditionally Ashley is a boys' name.

I can't freaking stand Ashley as a name at all, sadly, its my name. *barf* On a boy? oh please no.

I feel you, I can't stand the name either. As a teacher I have come across waaaaaay to many Ashley's, all girls btw. I have friends who have named their girls Ashley and I hate the name so much that when my coworker was pregnant and told me her name would be Ashley I got into the habit of calling the baby Not Ashley! Unfortunately the joke name stuck on the poor child for the first couple of months.

Ugh. Spencer for a girl and Ashley for a boy? Are they just trying to look edgy? I'm just trying to imagine the scenario, "Hi, these are my kids Ashley and Spencer. How dare you think Ashley is my daughter instead of my son?!"

Maybe I hate Spencer as a first name because it is part of my hyphenated surname, and I hate the surnames-as-first-names trend. But juxtaposing it with Ashley for a boy just seems like borderline child cruelty. Spencer and Seth wouldn't be as bad.

I've always preferred Ashley on a boy, but I can't get behind Spencer on a girl.

My sister is a Spencer, so I have always seen it as a more feminine name. I like that combo!

Ashley for a boy is not a good idea, imo. boy names for girls are ok (to an extent, obv.) but girl names for boys? not so much. they used to be OK but kids are cruel now a days. you shouldn't do that to your child. i do like Spencer Rose, though.

Ashley was original a boys' name.

i'm aware. but children of today don't know that because it's more typically a girl's name now.

Kids will tease other kids about anything. You could carefully pick the most common boys' name and they'll still turn it into a joke. Or they'll tease him about his glasses, his height, his hair, or just because it's Tuesday. Besides, children are only children for about 10-12 years. They'll spend far more time as adults.

I love Spencer Rose, although Spencer on a girl reminds me of Spencer from Pretty Little Liars. Not a bad association, though!
