[identity profile] politicking.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
A friend of mine is a pro-photog and just posted this status:

"So I just got a newborn client inquiry for a baby boy named, Gryffin Doore"

*Doore is the last name

I don't care how much one loves Harry Potter, this is not a good name for a child.

I love Harry Potter and I agree with this 100%. This is too far!

Yup, HUUUUGE HP fan but that is just plain awful :| So many names in that universe that are pretty common and nice names. WHY DO THIS?! :|

I'm not really a HP fan (or at least, I never jumped on that bandwagon) and I even can see the problem here!

If my last name was Doore, that sounds like the perfect, awesomely dorky FAKE name I would tell people I was naming my child to keep the real name secret until birth. It would probably make for some funny stories to tell the kid when he got older and was maybe reading the books, but the child wouldn't actually be stuck with the name.

You guys remember the post a few weeks back with the subtle Star Wars-themed names? Where the names sounded normal or at least normal-ish on their own, and were only obviously fandom-y if you actually took a second to think about it?

This is the opposite of that. -.-

I know someone whose late name is Dore, and I tried to convince her to name her baby Griffin. She laughed, but politely declined. Even I didn't know if I was actually serious about it.
