I am toying around with the name Magdalena for a girl. I absolutely love it. My husband is set on his chosen name for a girl, but it's totally unacceptable for me (it insinuates a type of deformity, is a play on words, and is the name of a character he loves).

Anyway. Suggestions on middle names are appreciated. I like the following:
Magdalena Marie (continuing tradition - it is my MN & my mother's as well)
Magdalena Mercy (my grandmothers first name)
Magdalena Therese (my husband's grandmother was Theresa, I prefer the flow of Therese)
Magdalena Violet
Magdalena Leigh
Magdalena Iris

I love Harley Quinn but NOPE to naming a child after her. Even using one of them and knowing it was named after her might be a bit off-putting. Unless you try suggesting just Quinn as a middle name or something to compromise?

I think Magdalena is really pretty and its unusual without being weird. I love it with Violet and Therese in particular :D

i like Therese. i agree that it sounds better than Theresa but it's still good homage to his grandmother. which is good since you don't like his name. haha that's kinda what we're going through right now, too.

The only thing I can think of is Magdalena Hagdelena, the popular camp song. It isn't cute, and could subject your little girl to some serious taunting.

I love Magdalena. It's different without actually being different. And I love the nicknames you can get! Maggie, Lena, Dylan... I don't think Leigh works at all. Marie is a bit over the top for me, and usually I like alliteration just fine. Therese is beautiful! Mercy is actually interesting. Also, love Harley Quinn, but yeah... Oh, no!

I like Magdalena Marie, Magdalena Mercy, and Magdalena Violet, though Magdalena Therese is nice, too. The flow for the other two is slightly off, but they're all nice choices.

I like Magdalena Therese the best because of the way it flows, but to be honest, everything else either sounds weird or has a weird association... I can't help but think of "Mary Magdalene." So Magdalena Marie is just like Mary Magdalene backwards and slightly varied. Magdalena Mercy sounds like you're naming her after the story of Mary Magdalene.

Mary Magdalene was actually my second choice for my patron Saint when I was confirmed. I went with Cecilia because I was thirteen and it was ~*pretty*~. Anyway, I guess it doesn't bother me that people would think I named a girl after her or in honor of her.

I do too. I think since we'd be using Henry for a boy, in honor of my grandfather, then honoring his grandmother would be sweet for a girl and she's the only grandparent of his I ever met. I adored her, she was amazing!
