I dont know about everyone else, but I started making a name list for future kids when I was 16 or so, I was wondering if anyone else had done that, if so how has it change from then to now? List names that you liked then, but have replaced with new names.

I found this list while digging through some old notebooks. Beware : Horrible names await you. haha.

oh I definitely started a list when I was 12 or so. I still have it somewhere, but I don't know where offhand. i just remember my first two kids were supposed to be Collette and Joshua. I still like Collette, i just don't know of I want to use it. Joshua is a bit too common for me now. though when I was 10 I did name my baby brother Joshua.. my mom said it was nice so I thought she was actually gonna go for it, but she went with David instead. and now at 22 he hates his name and when I asked what he wished he were named? he said "Joshua or Elijah or Isaiah". wow, too bad mom didn't listen to me!

anyway, my first girl and boy are actually Germaine and Linus. but I'd been pretty set on those two since I was about 17, actually.

I know, I find myself pointing out "my DAUGHTER Germaine" because I'm afraid people will automatically think 'male' because of the Jacksons.

I think my name tastes have been fairly similar over the years (but with different names rising and falling every so often). Around 14 or 15, I know Julian and Evelyn were my favorites. Now I like Benjamin and Allison.

I used to swear my first girl would be Brianna and my first boy would be Brendan. While I don't believe they are horrible names, they are just not my style anymore. Current favorites are Evelyn and Magdalena for girls, Henry and Gabriel from boys.

While most of the names I liked in high school weren't awful, there were a few that were a bit dodgy. I do recall liking Phoenix (m/f) quite a bit. At one point, I thought Jade (f), Lake (m), and Rain (f) would be an awesome sibset. There is still something about it that appeals to me despite none of them really being my style anymore and the fact that it's a bit themed. Late middle school or so, I liked Phobos and Deimos, although I don't recall wanting to put them on actual children. I liked London (m) as well.

Phobos and Deimos aside, they aren't bad really, just not my style. I think I remember the names as being worse than they are because my parents and brother thought they were really bizarre. There were some Celtic names in there too, such as Lachlan, Niamh, Fionnbharr, and Riordan. I don't actually remember the correct spellings for the last two, so those are guesses.

Then, there were some run of the mill names like Timothy and Roger. Oh, Virgil was another late middle school name. In 10th grade, I thought I would name twins Byron Edward and Hermione Jane. It seemed no matter what the style, I was told by family that my kids would be beat up on the playground, but then, they still say that.

I don't remember making any lists, but I do remember thinking McKinley would be a good girl's name when I was in 4th grade, and that was about 20 years ago. Clearly I was ahead of my time!

In high school I liked the names Tierney, Cayleigh, and Nathan. Nathan is the only one that has stayed with me. I'd like to use it if I have more than one boy.

I also like Maeve and Mavourneen as a child after I saw them in a book about teddy bears, of all things...

Mavourneen makes me think of Wolverine, for some reason. Sorry!

It's good job that I didn't have any babies at 16! At that age, my daughter was going to be Charity Paige; then I went through an Irish phase and loved the name Roisin. I was set on Kaliadne for most of my 20s. Then I had Wren when I was 29. Quite an evolution!

My old list:
Girls:
Rhiannon Alexa
Mary Jessamyn

Boys:
Aaron Michael

My newer list (which is much more tailored to honor deceased family members)
Henry Leonard (our son's name)

Potential future children:
Jacqueline Grace
Marian Grace
Marnie Grace
Hazel Marian

Hazen Melville (boy)

We've always struggled to find boy names that fit our narrow criteria.

I definitely had a list in an Access database when I was about 17. I don't remember my whole list, but I do remember that Julianne was my favorite name for a girl, and Anthony or Nicholas for a boy. For a long time I said if I had a girl I would want to name her Julianne. (I don't even like that name anymore.) Other girl names I liked were Serena and Cordelia, and I also loved Julian for a boy.

Now my girl names look like Olivia, Charlotte, Vivienne (my grandmother's name, although she spelled it Vivian), Alice, Margaret (nobody is going to let me get away with Alice or Margaret), Natalia, Abigail, Claire, Emma, Chloe, and Savannah. I also like Lorraine (my grandmother's middle name) and Louisa, but probably for middle names. Honestly, I love Olivia Lorraine and Charlotte Louisa. For boys, I still like Nicholas, but my favorite name is Noah. It was previously Isaiah, but a cousin used that for his son, who will be in the same generation as my children. I also love Isaac, Nathaniel, Elisha (I love this name but my husband says it sounds like a girl's name), Judah, Caleb, Joseph, and Levi.

As a side note, I've actually been pleased with most of the names my generation of cousins' children: Kayla, Alexis, Isaiah, Elijah, Nina, Sophia...the only disappointment is Sophia's middle name, Jaden, and the youngest one: Jaelyn. And Jaelyn's middle name was Sienna, so I was like, why couldn't you have just named her Sienna? My family can be kind of...ghetto fabulous, which is why I was happy with the names so far. We also have a new addition, who is Alyssa Renee. My name is Melissa Rene, so it's funny.
