On the same boat. Kate is my all time favourite name for girls, and I plan to use it for my first daughter, but I don't particularly like Katherine or Kathleen and I hate Kaitlyn. So I contemplated it a great deal! :-D It really flows well with 4 syllable names: Kate Elizabeth is begging to be used, but Elizabeth is so common, it turns me off. I really like Kate Penelope.

It sounds good with some other names as well, I like Kate Eliana, Kate Patricia, and Kate Rebecca. I knew a Kate Eliza once and I think it's lovely, even if it runs together just a bit. Kate's definitely a tricky name to find a middle name for. Humph.

Good to know I'm not alone. I think Kate is a lovely, classic name and it cheapens it to be used only as a nickname for the names we dislike. It goes beautifully with my last name as well.

Mine too. And it's so strong. I really agree with you on how it cheapens it--it takes away from it. Katherine is one thing, Kate is another. Kate is strong, clean, classy and gorgeous, and it should be used on its own. So I say more power to you! :D

I actually like the name Elizabeth, but it's so common as a middle name, it almost becomes a default. It DOES sound perfect with Kate; it matches it beautifully in sound and style. I just wouldn't use it as a middle name because I know maybe... 7, something Elizabeths. I'd sooner use it as a first name. :)
