Opinions on the name Luna (for a girl)?

Obvious teasing opportunities aside, I think it is kind of nice, though nms.

Yes, there is the Harry Potter association. Yes, there is the looney/lunacy/lunatic thing. BUT, I quite like the name.

I'd think either they were big Harry Potter fans, or they're hippies. I wouldn't use it but it's a nice name.

Though as a massive HP fan myself, I can't bring myself to name my kid an obvious name from the book...like Hermione...which I love. I thought about Alastor...or Gideon(Molly weasleys brother) which is so minimally discussed but it's in there. Haha.

I loved Arabella Fig...and using Arabella but then people would think about Bella and twilight which I hate with every bit of my being.

Trueblood - Sam's girlfriend, a shapeshifter, is named Luna. It a pretty name.

My sister's middle name is Lucia. Lucia means "moon" in Armenian(which is our background). I like Lucia/Lucy

Love it! If I didn't already have a dog named Luna, I would definitely consider it for a daughter!

Actually top name on my list right now so... I obviously love it and hey, better a HP reference than a Twilight one!

I'm not the biggest fan. I find it to be quite strange.

Sad that Harry Potter is all people think of. It was on my high school name list (the baby names I liked when I was in HS). Mattie Luna was a name I wanted to use, but then Madison/Madi got popular so Mattie (Matilda? I wasn't sure what the real name would be) was out, and Luna just didn't feel right with the other names I liked later. I miss Mattie Luna as my name combo, though. I thought about it so often for a while. So, I like it, but maybe as a middle name.

Sadly, it's like Hermione or Ginny ... Just screams Harry Potter. I considered it for one of my horses cos I love HP but it just seemed too obvious so I went with Lyra instead for His Dark Materials.

I love the name Luna. I think it's pretty and simple without being over the top. As a Harry Potter fan, I see nothing wrong with the name reference but it's actually not the first reference I think of. Stellaluna is for whatever reason. I also like that it's a nature name but that it's also a "real" name in case a child is more suited to other things, better than naming your child Slate or Eagle.

I currently have a goldfish with a swimbladder disorder who is called Luna. She's so named because before I started researching goldfish and changed her diet she used to float upside down, which made me think of Luna Lovegood. My fish is almost four years old and for a $0.45 fish from Walmart who spent two years living in a tank I smuggled into my dorm room in college (being moved back and forth between rez and my parents) and then three moves in the two years after that, she's doing pretty well. So Luna is a fairly strong name for me. :) Nothing but good vibes.

Love it!
I'm a massive Harry Potter fan so I'm sure I'd never hear the end of it if I uses it but I like it too much to worry about that. Plus, as someone mentioned, better HP than Twilight!

My daughter's name is Luna. I don't believe anyone has ever said "Like from Harry Potter?" Most people say "Oh! Like the moon!" Most people seem to like it(of course they may just say that but oh well, right? :D) The only odd thing I've encountered is that paperwork has been sent in Spanish assuming that she comes from a Spanish speaking household I guess?
